@edgarblythe,
Just to get a fix on how Buddy Knox's voice sounded, here's his version of
'Party Doll' (also a huge Buddy Holly hit). Confused yet?

@edgarblythe,
There's a good reason you never heard Buddy Holly do it. I have one too many Buddy's and rockabilly artists in my head. At least I got it right that Buddy Knox is credited for that clip of Party Doll

Buddy Knox (not Buddy Holly) recorded it. Not both of them.

@edgarblythe,
edgar- I was about 15 when I went to the "Elegante", a club in Brooklyn. There they introduced a new singer........It was Johnny Mathis. He was just a kid. What memories!!!

What is nice about this clip, is that you can see the kind of clothes that we wore, and the way that we danced.

Here's Mr. "Squeaky Clean" himself, Pat Boone, singing Rock n' Roll.

Eddie Fisher was a sensation in 1953. That was before he married Debbie Reynolds, and left her for Elizabeth Taylor.

I went to the Paramount theatre with my girlfriends, just to see him. I waited for hours to get in, as the line was around the block, mostly young teenage girls.
The movie that was being played at the same time, was "House of Wax", in 3-D, with Vincent Price.

The girls could not stop screaming. After he sang, he chatted with the audience. I asked him for his tie, and he reluctantly gave it to me. (I think that he was just starting to make it big, and it WAS an expensive tie.)

I cut the tie in half, and gave the other held to my friend. I kept the tie in a scrapbook where I clipped every news story that I could get my hands on.

I stopped saving the stuff when he married Debbie Reynolds. Sad

In looking for songs for this thread, I happened upon the Billboard charts for the Top 30 Songs, by year. The list started in 1951. It is fascinating to look through each of the lists to watch the changeover of top hits to go from basically ballads, to Rock n Roll.

You might want to take a look at this. I find it fascinating.

This is another great resource.
