Attaching Videos to Messages

On a message to a friend's time line, I see only the camera icon. I click on it and browse to the video clip I want to attach, and select "Open". A blank window frame opens and "connecting" appears, but nothing else seems to happen. Is it actually uploading the video, and am I not allowing enough time?
