Rainsoft model AM24CT not drawing brine. (installed in 92)

My softener doesn't draw brine out of the tank, but if I put the brine into a bucket and place it on top of the brine tank it will flow into the tri-guard brine control just fine. This allows me to have soft water but is a hassle. When I put the system into regenerate it does everything but draw brine. I removed the brine injector and it looks ok and doesn't appear to have anything wrong with it. When reinstalling brine tube I am not sure if I'm not sure if I have it all the way in as it was hard to remove and seems to be a very tight fit. When installed properly should it be level with the top of the valve and if so what else should I be looking at. Thanks
