Did anyone happen to catch this three-hour special last night?

Jesus and Paul: The Word and the Witness. Peter Jennings Reporting

I found it to be very interesting and informative. What did you think?

I saw bits and pieces (was working in a room with a gal who was watching it).

Seemed to pander to the audience at times, striking a balance between what Christians wanted to see, and an academic approach.

The emphasis on Paul was done in a way that I think made it more palatable to Christians than it normally is.

I saw it. I thought it was handled well...especially the explanation about Pontius Pilate and the Jewish rulers.

I only caught the last two-hours - the part that dealt with Paul...but it was great that they were interviewing so many different people about it and it was interesting to see biblical figures be looked at from a historical point of view.

It was pretty funny when Jennings went around asking everyone what they knew about Paul.

An enjoyable two hours.

I saw part of it. What surprised me, was how many people think that Jesus had blue eyes! Smile

I agree, Craven. I can't imagine a network station airing a program on this subject with the intellectual integrity shown in the documentary by the Jesus Seminar. This one played down the ambition and duplicity of Paul.

Right, Jer. That, of course, is ridiculous. Jesus probably looked like most of the people of the Hebrew race of the time. I thought it interesting that Jesus never actually said that he was the Messiah.

Mom and I watched the entire program ~ and both thought it was brilliant.

I'd rather hear all the 'arguments' than one point of view.

Jesus and blue eyes . . .

Early in its history, National Lampoon magazine did a comic strip of the new testament (four books in a few dozen panels). All the Jews had blond hair and blue eyes, except Hay-Zeus. He had black curly hair that looked like dreads, and a shaggy beard and brown eyes. Everyone looked at him as though he were funny er sumpin' . . .

This is apparenty what jesus really looked like. It's a composite of what forensic scientists believe the average joe looked like in Israel way back when.

(and for J.L.--Hey, yeahsu. hee hee)

The picture that Setanta posted was the very one that I saw on some documentary.

Have to admit that I am a bit biased because I like the way Peter Jennings does stuff.

I thought it was one of the most intelligent and all-encompassing documentaries on Christianity ever produced. Kudos to Mr. Jennings. I think he's nearing retirement and the network is letting him do what he wants. That's a good thing.
