Also the Romanian "astăzi" (today) is often seen as "astă-zi" in material older than about 100 years.
This is in the 1985 edition of "Postman Pat’s Thirsty Day":
“It’s a real scorcher to-day,” said Pat to Jess, as they drove along.
"to-day" became "today" in the 1996 edition.

Fowler indeed. How come you don't quote Fowler? A source like that in the hands of someone as ignorant on language as you makes for a highly dangerous situation for ESLs.
