@Region Philbis,
YEh, Cilantroo is one of the easiest things to grow . You need a nice big pot and a sunny window. Do you have any outside room as well?

we haven't had much luck gardening outdoors -- partly due to hungry critters, partly due to laziness...

Shortage of cilantro?
Oh, be still my beating heart.
So tired of asking waiters to not include it in otherwise tasty plates.

@Region Philbis,
since cilantro seed is cheap, yu can use the old adage for getting plants to grow. When you plant you plant enough seeds

One seed for the worm
and one for the crow
another to wilt
and one to grow
When I plant cilantro, I usually make a short row because cilantro gets spindly after a few days . It goes from being a parsley looking leaf to a dill like leaf as the flowers and seed pods begin to show.

It has its best "soapy" taste when the leaves are broad

SO we start a row every week or so right until about mid September and it gives us cilantro all spring and summer.

They use seeds for that, not weed? I didn't know that. Honestly. Are the seeds good for anything else?

@Lordyaswas,
I liked that last blog article, Lordy.

You and I could probably get into it about moorhens and coots, eh?

@Region Philbis,
I'm used to large bunches in the veggie aisle. I try to avoid herbs in plastic containers, not re freshness as they're probably fresher, but because of the price difference.

Will have to check when I go to the market tomorrow if the bunches went for a walkabout.

If I can't find cilantro, I just get coriander instead.

If you have a Wegman's near you, RP, their website says they have bunches of cilantro in stock in their produce section.

Here's their store locator in case you want to call ahead to confirm they have it.

If you've got the parsley and sage, Rosemary, I've go the thyme.

Not especially relevant, I just wanted to write it.

I've only ever made dill pickles with dill sprigs - of course I've only ever helped people make them - there may well be recipes using the seeds.

The seeds are actually more flavorful and the Jewish dills and German Dills use all the plant parts.
We only use dill weed for cooking with Lima beans . ITS delicious

@farmerman,
dill salmon is wonderful...

lima beans would need more than dill to entice me much.

@ehBeth,
OOH OOH, I remember something important.
Dill weed flavor is destroyed by heat. Dill SEED's flavor is intensified by heat. That's why dill pickles have the strongest dilly flavor when seeds are included . When you cover the pickles you use a heat bath and dill weed is just for show wheras dill SEED does the flavoring)

there's the issue right there. we don't want dills to have a strong flavour. it likely is a cultural difference.
