Letty,

What is Love ? By Ernest Dowson

"What is Love?
Is it a folly,
Is it mirth, or melancholy?
Joys above,
Are there many, or not any?
What is Love?

If you please,
A most sweet folly!
Full of mirth and melancholy:
Both of these!
In its sadness worth all gladness,
If you please!

Prithee where,
Goes Love a-hiding?
Is he long in his abiding
Anywhere?
Can you bind him when you find him;
Prithee, where?

With spring days
Love comes and dallies:
Upon the mountains, through the valleys
Lie Love's ways.
Then he leaves you and deceives you
In spring days. "

And prithee my pretty one how are you this fine spring day ? Very Happy

Your poem was delightful, hiama, but that ain't it either. Smile

I think I'm all right today. I'll let you know after I have some coffee. Gorsh, you and Boo know how to make a rather frazzled woman feel cool. Cool

Clue:
This poet read one of his poems at John F. Kennedy's inauguration. The poem to which I am referring was one that I never quite understood.

Love and a question by Robert Frost

A stranger came to the door at eve,
And he spoke the bridegroom fair.
He bore a green-white stick in his hand,
And, for all burden, care.
He asked with the eyes more than the lips
For a shelter for the night,
And he turned and looked at the road afar
Without a window light.

The bridegroom came forth into the porch
With, 'Let us look at the sky,
And question what of the night to be,
Stranger, you and I.'
The woodbine leaves littered the yard,
The woodbine berries were blue,
Autumn, yes, winter was in the wind;
'Stranger, I wish I knew.'

Within, the bride in the dusk alone
Bent over the open fire,
Her face rose-red with the glowing coal
And the thought of the heart's desire.

The bridegroom looked at the weary road,
Yet saw but her within,
And wished her heart in a case of gold
And pinned with a silver pin.

The bridegroom thought it little to give
A dole of bread, a purse,
A heartfelt prayer for the poor of God,
Or for the rich a curse;

But whether or not a man was asked
To mar the love of two
By harboring woe in the bridal house,
The bridegroom wished he knew.

Very Happy

You must not have known how easy that clue made it Letty....BTW, you're obviously a fan of classic poetry, so here's a tip. For great modern stuff, if you haven't checked out "Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam" on HBO, ...DO IT! Don't let the fact that he's a Rap impressario throw you. His show has everyone from the likes of Maya Andelou, and Nikki Giovonni, To raw tatented teenaged amateurs. I'm not as big a fan of poetry as you, so when I watch, I plan to catch about 10 or 15 minutes.....I wind up finishing, everytime. Rolling Eyes

Hey, Boo. We always gotta do something to help the Brits. heh..heh
Seriously, I have watched a lotta def comedy jam on HBO..no def poetry jam. will try.

One final challenge, hiami. Frost is usually easier to explicate than Sandburg. What's your take on that poem?

Hi dys.... that's a great link!! I remember Slim Whitman. I'm sure my dad had one of his albums, and loved yodeling cowboys!! That's funny... about the 'Mars Attacks' movie!!

OK... New Music Trivia Question......

here's the lyrics.....

The lunatic is on the grass
The lunatic is on the grass
Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs
Got to keep the loonies on the path

The lunatic is in the hall
The lunatics are in my hall
The paper holds their folded faces to the floor
And every day the paper boy brings more

And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

The lunatic is in my head
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You rearrange me 'til I'm sane
You lock the door
And throw away the key
There's someone in my head but it's not me

And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Name That Tune!!

Very Happy

Well, good grief. Let me amend that to read:

The only left-handed hillbilly guitarist Razz

And to further amend, allow me to say:
The only left-handed mountain william guitarist.

How's that! Laughing
