the answer to my last question was nudie suits
I too hadn't a clue [about nudie suits], but decided to revive the thread. The problem with such a thread is, a2kers have such diverse backgrounds, it is easy to draw from fields of music I have no knowledge of. That's why I quit participating regularly. But, now, I will try to stick it out when I get lost.
Here's another hint about Tuli Kupferburg's band. It exists today, and also includes Ken Weaver.
One last clue tonight. The core of the group was made up of Tuli Kupferburg, Ken Weaver, and the leader, Ed Sanders, who also wrote a book on the Charles Manson murders. They began in the 1960s but still record occasionally today.
The what? Monkeys? Aw, man. That ain't it.
Can we rule out Black Sabbath?
These guys are blacker than Sabbath.
Not really blacker. They specialize in raunch and peace movement and the like.
Not nearly so smooth as the Platters.
the Fugs
The answer is The Fugs...
They came out at the time as sort of a bridge bwetween the Beat and The Hippie generation. At one time they were serious competition for Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. If I recall correctly, Sanders was anti-nuke (1961) before many of us knew what a nuke was. I think he lives about 1.5 hrs drive down-state in Woodstock NY from me, too.
OOps Edgar. am I wrong about this?
You got it right, rags. Ed Sanders, who wrote, "Ain't no pink fag legislature gonna say I can't have guns -
Hell, I nearly had to kill a bunch of peace queers, holding signs outside a church -
And, hey, Mister, tell all the whole wide sky, my name is Johnny
Johhny Pissoff"
This Ed Sanders is today a gun owner, if I got my facts right, and possibly a Republican.
Got a question for us, Ragman_orig?
Anybody know the stage name of Alvis Edgar Owens?
You got that right, Swimpy.
He was the Drunken Angel that Lucinda Williams sang about.
He was a shooter or one that got shot. I'll come up with it if no one else does.
I'm not sure about the shooter thing. He was a texas boy, so you should know of him.
