Stones, Between the Buttons
Definitely Ruby Tuesday

If I can slip in another question, British folk group from the late sixties...

Name the group

Trees they grow high and the leaves they do grow green
Many years that I, my true love I seen
Many an hour I've watched him all alone
He's young but he's daily growing

Father dear Father,
You've done me great wrong
You've married me to a boy who is too young
I am twice twelve and he is but fourteen
He's young but he's daily growing

Daughter dear Daughter,
I've done you no wrong
I've married you to a brave lord's son
He'll be a man to you when I am dead and gone
He's young but he's daily growing

Father dear Father,
If you see fit
You'll send my love to college for one year yet
Tie a blue ribbons all around his head
To let the ladies know that he's married

One day I was looking over my father's castle wall
Saw'r all the boys a playin' with a ball
My own true love was the flower of them all
He's young but he's daily growing

. . .

At the age of fourteen he was a married man
Age of fifteen the father of a son
Age of sixteen on his grave the grass was green
Cruel death had put an end to his growing

I'll make my love a shroud of the ??? so fine
Every stitch I put in it the tears come trickling down
Once I had a true love but now (I've ne'er one? I've nair one?)
But I'll watch o'er his son while he's growing...

If those historic gentlemen came back today
Jefferson Washington and Lincoln
And Walter Cronkite put them on channel 2 to find out what they're thinkin
I'm sure they'd say Thanks for quoting us so much but we don't want to take a bow
Enough with the quoting Put those words into action and we mean action now
Now is the moment
Now is the moment
Come on we've put it off long enough
I went and took a look
In my old hist'ry book
It's there in black and white for all to see

Who recorded this song?

Hi ferrous.......

I found this song under several different names......

Daily Growing
A Long Time A-Growing
Young But Daily Growing
Young A-Growing

Recorded by.....

The Gavin Family
Nathan Hatt
Sandy Patton
Nelson Penfold
Jeff Warner & Jeff Davis
The Kinks
Bob Dylan

None of the above seem to fit into the "I've Got A Secret" clue....

Bennett Cerf?
Arlene Francis?
Bill Cullen?
Jayne Meadows?
Harry Morgan?
Garry Moore?

I give up!!!!!

Help!!!!!

The song by Lena Horne was NOW. It was her fastest rising song ever until the stations decided to not play it. It was the lead on quite an album, one that had her doing a pop version of BLOWIN IN THE WIND, WOULDN'T IT BE LOVERLY, LOST AMONG THE STARS, and SILENT SPRING.

New Question

What Erskine Caldwell title was the name of a hit song?

Pentangle was a British folk group in the late sixties that sprinkled a lot of jazz into their work. I would recommend "Sweet Child (1968)" and "Cruel Sister (1970) as a great place to start... ferrous

Hi ferrous.....

I remember "Pentangle"!!

Is "Pentangle" the answer to your question?

I looked at their albums at the Amazon.com website, but I didn't see the "Daily Growing" song.

There were two free "Pentangle" downloads at Amazon.... "Play The Game" and "The Open Sea"..... I added both of them to my music file!

Also, Amazon suggested a couple of albums that I hadn't thought about in Years.... "Fairport Convention" and "The Lady and the Unicorn, by John Renbourn"..... both of them were among my favorites in the past....

If "Pentangle" is the answer, how does the clue "I've Got A Secret" apply?

I've Got a Secret
Yes, Pentangle. Late sixties, the album "Sweet Child" was released. "I've got a Secret" was my favorite song by them. Still sends chills down my spine when I sing along with her. The vocal range is exhilarating.

I've got a secret
Concerning you....
Oh.... I've got a secret
Concerning the things....you do

I ain't dreamin
When I dream of you
No.... I aint dreanin when I think of you
When I think of what... we're goin do.

New Question.......

here's the lyrics.......

Sometimes the light's all shining on me
Other times I can barely see
Lately it occurs to me
what a long strange trip it's been

You're sick of hanging around and you'd like to travel
Tired of travel, you want to settle down
I guess they can't revoke your soul for trying
Get out of the door - light out and look all around

.......name that tune.......

Hi ferrous.....

LOL.... I was totally off on a tangent, thinking of the old TV show "I've Got A Secret"... LOL!!!!

Hi dyslexia.....

What I found about "Dead Can Dance"..... a quote..... "To understand why we chose the name, think of the transformation of inanimacy to animacy. Think of the processes concerning life from death and death into live."

p & L ok close enough actually the name comes from the practice of "mud men" dancing using masks from dead wood of trees in that the "dead mask" is brought to life from the dance. In the film "Valley Obscured by Clouds" that Pink Floyd did the sound track for, there is excellent film footage of that "mud man" dance.

Truckin... Grateful Dead
What ever became of Sweet Ching
You know she lost her mind
She was never the same
Living on Vitamin C, Reds, and Cocaine
All a friend can say is
Isn't it a shame

Some time the lights are shining on me
Other times I can barely see
Lately it occurs to me
What a long, strange trip it's been

Truckin, like a Doo Dog man
Once told me, you got to play your hand
Sometimes, the cards aren't worth a dime
If you don't lay em... Down...

Nexts question... One of my all time favorites.

Looking all around me
What do I see
Lots of changing faces
And lots of things to be
But I'm happy just to be
A part of all I see
As I turn round to look at you
And you look back at me

Name the album.
