Facebook has algorithms for most things and this is likely to be one of 'em. I suspect it's a formula of likes and other contacts, perhaps even things as subtle as clicking 'see more' in order to read a longer post.

And, like pretty much 100% of all online algorithms, it's proprietary and unlikely to be revealed in full, like, ever.
