I live in New York State and cannot understand why Governor A. Сuomo has decided to reverse the state's ban on hydraulic fracturing because of notorious shale gas boom!
You see, gas produced this way releases a cocktail of more than 600 toxic chemicals, including methane, radium and uranium. It means that implementation of so-called "fracking" here puts an end to any well water for our families and farms.
Why don't authorities use this method anywhere else, for instance, in the DC? New York is lucky enough to have some of the best drinking water in the world. We love our land and do not want to leave it because of ruined drinking water and toxic fumes in the air as fracking for shale gas leaks toxic chemicals into the air and water. Gas industry studies show that 5% of wells can leak immediately and 60% - over 30 years! Thus, our flowered land will turn into absolute desert soon...
Don't be fooled, pals! We must cry for stopping hydraulic fracturing here if we really love New York. Our water and land should be protected and preserved for generations to come!
@Markes,
Do you have a link to evidence regarding the problems you describe?
@Markes,
never let a good tale go away for the lack of a few basic facts. I also would like to see all these allegations and their supportive data because Ive got a really substantial data base and bibliography of this subject from about the US and now in UK.
So far we haven't seen any evidence of leakage around the grouted segments of the wells and in the cased and grouted surficial segments (ground water usually cuts out at around <900 ft (That's about 10 to 20% of the distance that the frack holes are installed
