Can someone please explain to me how consciousness can be nothing? I just can't seem to wrap my head around that idea.
"Fraid I can't help you Kicky!
Consciousness is said to be nothing (objectified) because consciousness cannot be observed; cannot observe itself.
You/I as awareness cannot observe the observer that you/I are.
From the subject?-object relation in which the subject is consciousness and the object is any observable (thoughts, objects, feelings etc) the ?'subject' can never observe itself because a subject cannot become an object of observation for if it did it would cease being a subject and become an object.
That's the nature of subject?-object dualism; it is a contradiction in terms; all observed subjects are by definition of ?'being observed', objects, so there is no subject--object relation but only object-as-subject------object relation; object?-object relation. And the elusive consciousness is observing all of it as ?'nothing' observable itself.
