@RexRed,
OK, this may require a "short" explanation:
Did you see the body size of the young dude? He was a big dude.
If no confrontation person to person happened, and the big dude never tried to attack the police officer, then you are right: HIDEOUS!
But, so far, the preliminary report says that the young big dude attacked the police officer.
Now well, the attacker won't need a weapon to hurt, wound,and even kill the police officer, but his huge body to control and disabled the opponent.
The police officer HAD to defend himself from any injury, and regardless of the attacker having a weapon or not, the police officer is by law allowed to use his weapon to disable anyone or anything that compromises his physical integrity.
The common practice -which is also taught in any training for learning how to use arms- is "shoot to kill."
This common practice is new.
The five shots were "necessary" because there are lots of greedy and corrupt attorneys who are expert in manipulating the law in order to collect millions of dollars when the criminal survives police shootings. These attorneys are so good, that if a burglar gets into your house, and he gets injured by a safety device you have installed as protection, or a ceramic tile was loose on the floor, and so forth, you -the victim- mayt end paying for his injures caused in YOUR house, plus other compensations.
For this reason, in order to avoid the criminal having any opportunity to hire an attorney and become rich at the cost of manipulation of the law, police officers shoot like crazy to be sure that the criminal is dead. This action saves millions and millions of dollars to tax payers.
Then, we have the situation where the aggressor received 5? shots and is dead.
Look at it this way: you are walking in the street going home, a big dude hits you in the head that bad that you ended on the floor. You call 911 and report that a guy is in the street hitting cars, people, etc. Police arrives, follows the criminal, the criminal won't obey police orders but on the contrary, he will try to hurt the police officer. The police officer takes his gun out and shoot 7 times against the big dude.
You were watching the whole thing, while somebody gave you a cloth to hold the bleeding caused by you falling on the floor.
You will consider the police action as exaggerate, but inside you will feel a kind of compensation for the damage caused by the criminal against you.
This killing is just an unfortunate case where the suspect or criminal decided to attack the police officer rather than comply with the orders from police to surrender and be arrested without opposition.
The best to be done, is letting police to do their job when they arrest you, even if they are wrong 100%, just let them do their job.
You will have the opportunity to show them wrong later on, and receive a huge compensation if you hire one of those greedy corrupt attorneys. But, you resisting the arrest might cause at the end, the need of a special tailor to make you a pajama made of wood.
