Am I stuck for good now?

I had an interview and I didn't have time to get to the salon. I applied home color that matched my color. However, my intention was to lighten later on. Now, I'm told that I either have to wait a year for my hair to grow out before I can lighten or. I have to highlight. I need to cover gray though, so I cannot wait a year for this to grow out. So, does that mean I'll never be able to lighten my hair? I want my whole head lighter, so highlighting won't do it.

@Shellie71,
No idea. Consult a hair colourist.

@Shellie71,
It depends what you used to colour your hair. A colour rinse, dye, or henna? I'm no expert, but depending on what you used you oughtn't to have to wait a whole year for it to grow out. Best thing is to check the packs of lightener you want to use for contact details, then phone or e-mail the manufacturers helpline, and ask them - they are there to advise you.
