So this weekend I was trying to log in to A2K on my laptop to check a few posts. I put my username and password into the main page, and then the windows security login pops up and wants my username and password. The title of the window was moving and I put my password again. It didn't seem to take it. I wasn't going to, in case of a trojan, but this is a relatively clean machine that adequately protected, and A2k was the only site I was having this with.
So, was this an A2k issue that's been resolved, or was I just lucky? Did it have something to do with an advert maybe?
Gonna go and change my password now, JIC.
I was moving A2K to a new server, and wanted to lock everyone out of the forums so that they wouldn't be writing to the database as I was transferring it to another site (as the data would be lost and it could have caused database corruption).
That's why it said "moving".
I've thought of better ways to do it in the future. But of you see that kind of .htpasswd protection here it usually means an emergency or something drastic enough to require that all the users be kicked off the forums while the work progresses.
Either way, those "pop up" password protections won't ever work with your forum login as it's done on the server level.
Oh okay, good to know.
Thx, CDK
