I believe the expression was to involve FOOD not animals.

Dog.

Cow.

Swine.

Porker.

Aren't all of those foods? And, yes, there are still folks who eat dog.

Yes, but when one is called a "chicken" or "turkey," I don't think that's a reference to the food, but to the animal.

I cannot believe we are arguing over the nuances of this thread's parameters.

Well, this one's taken a wacky turn. I would say cabbage head, but that's actually a French expression. And I'm sure you're right re the chicken, etc. referencing behaviors and not foods.

For specific, one-time designations, there's Bill Parcells, the Big Tuna. I'm a bit unclear whether that's sandwiches or swimming critters.

Plum, as in something desirable or attractive (other than a person): "She got a plum job."
