@shydevil,
That's too bad. Try to plan in advance next time.

Too much to read? Mercy! You want it tied up in a bow? You need to make an effort. People here are not going to do your work for you.

@Ragman,
On the other hand we are a site that describes us as having experts, and oft times that is true. Most posters who might think about answering with what they know want to see that you have thought about the subject and at least googled, and like it if you show work and explain where you got stuck.

@shydevil,
Once in a while someone just gives an answer. But we aren't a do your homework site, that I've noticed. We'll often (if we see the post) help you with it if you actually do some yourself.

A lot of information is now available online. Some of that is plain wrong, or discussible.
Not that long ago, a lot of us went to research libraries to look up history, and that was both frustrating and rewarding - we might have had trouble finding stuff and, doing that, learned a lot.

Dialing for an answer in a few minutes? that is what google and similar sites and wikipedia are for. Sometimes you can get a quick straight answer here, but it's more a place that can discuss the history of pilgrimages at some length. But not like ZAP.

@shydevil,
You want a for or against at that statement?

Pilgrimage is out of date? - yes because many people are losing interest in organized religions, and because people are lazy and do their pilgrimages on the internet rather than doing the hard work of actually making the journey themselves....sort of like going on a website and asking them to do your homework for you rather than doing the reading needed to be able to do it yourself.

Pilgrimage is out of date? - no, there are still many people interested in history and cultures, and because there are still ambitious people who are interested in learning for learning's sake, or want to get ahead and are willing to do what it takes to get there, even if it means making a pilgrimage to the library in pursuit of the answers.

Which are you, shydevil?

@shydevil,
I did answer your question, you just want someone else to do your work for you.

The only person who is failing you is yourself.

Correction, your boyfriend is failing you too.

@shydevil,
hello?

Don't rely on boyfriends or girlfriends for answers - that sounds mocking but I don't mean it that way.

I hope you learn to think at length yourself. I don't mean that as a slam, a lot of us have needed to think over time.

@shydevil,
Lazybody. Like a starfish.

I should explain, a long ago friend described a starfish on his chest with finger movements, saying the word, lazybody.

Obviously, I'll always remember that.

Throw in the latest response, and it isn't hard to see why this site is so negative on homework help.

@shydevil,
Pilgrimages aren't just about religion.

If you had the opportunity to do so, would you make a visit to the Microsoft, Apple, Samsung, or Intel offices to see their design and programming departments in person and learn where and how it all started?

That's also a type of pilgrimage, especially if you had to learn something difficult and struggle to overcome obstacles to get there.

The very first link I gave you has the answer to your question if you were to bother to read it.

Quote:
In the early 21st century the numbers of people of all faiths making pilgrimages has continued to rise, with 39 of the most popular sites alone receiving an estimated 200 million visitors every year.[3] There is a growing awareness within the major faith organisations that fulfilling the spiritual obligations of pilgrimage may paradoxically conflict with the spiritual obligation to care for the natural world. In response to these concerns a global Green Pilgrimage Network[4] was inaugurated in 2011,[5] with municipal and religious authorities from Baha'ist, Buddhist, Christian, Daoist, Islamic, Jewish, Shinto and Sikh sacred sites committing to the shared goal of minimising the environmental impact of pilgrims and, ultimately, achieving a 'positive footprint' for pilgrimage. In 2012 an India Chapter of the Green Pilgrimage Network was launched, with a further ten Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic and Sikh pilgrimage sites from across India.[6]
