Quote:
BEHOLD
AND BOW!

The greatness
of her majesty
Patches The Cat

behold the bowl
the boldness
of it lionises
catches a nap

@farmerman,
I'm trying to find a cite and haven't yet. But no, that's not how it works here. I know this was addressed early (and at intervals since then) that writers have copyright of anything they post here.

This is untrue (and just plain rude, for that matter). Users of able2know retain the copyrights to their posted work, full stop. By posting them here they grant able2know a license to display it, but that doesn't mean any jackass on able2know can rip off their work and do what they want with it and the notion that posting things here makes it "public domain" is a legal claim that is categorically false.

The able2know Terms of Service (http://able2know.org/about/tos/#2b) make this clear:

Quote:
You are the copyright holder of all content created by you and posted on the service. You agree not to modify, publish, transmit, reproduce, create new works from, distribute, perform, display, or in any way exploit the service (including software) or any content not authored by you except as explicitly provided in Section II.C. of this Agreement. Some content in the service may contain additional copyright notices or restrictions and you agree to abide by them.

C. You may download or copy the content and other downloadable items displayed on the Service for personal use only, provided that you maintain all copyright and other notices contained therein. Copying or storing of any content for other than personal use is expressly prohibited without the prior written permission from able2know, or the copyright holder identified in the copyright notice contained in the content.

Well gee now aren't you just a sweet talker Rolling Eyes . It's no wonder people have issues with you. You could easily have explained the legalities without resorting to name calling.

@Sturgis,
I sure could have, but that would not have properly expressed how I feel about this untoward jackassery (make no mistake, that is exactly what it is) and if others take "issue" with that I can live with that, I'm not a person who wants to get through life without having ruffled a single feather and am of the opinion that some more than deserve ruffling.

You can couch your words how you want, I will couch my words how I want to.

TOS, that's where it was. I was searching for "able2know" and "copyright" but wasn't getting anywhere since there is the "Copyright 2012" thing there at the bottom of most (all?) pages.

@ehBeth,
it's at the very very bottom of the screen where it tells you how fast the page didn't generate...

@ehBeth,
Very, absolute bottom of the page. Mine is in a blue field, and I didn't see it without prompting, either.

@roger,
ohhhhhhhhhhh

I'd never see that without some serious scrolling . I keep my A2k window at work at about a 4 x 5" block

now that I look at it I realize that my impression of it is that it is MadLab's copyright. Apparently not.

@ehBeth,
Well, if that shows up on every searchfor the word "copyright", I can just imagine how many hits it would generate. I haven't checked to see if that happens, by the way.

@roger,
That's pretty common, to have the word "copyright" somewhere on a website, so I doubt A2K's hits would stick out.

Edit: I just did a search ("command + F" on my mac) of every window I have open, only Facebook didn't yield a "copyright" blurb at the bottom of the screen. It does have a (c) symbol though.

@Robert Gentel,
Thank you Robert to coming to my defense. Although he has never replied and who knows what sort of butchery he has already preformed on my work. I also 100% support your use of the word "jackass". If he's going to use my work for his own benefit, he should keep it AS IS. If he wants to make changes to it then he should write his own poem about his damn cat. That's just what makes sense to me

@sozobe,
I remember that too.

Edit - I'm late, hadn't read the later posts after Soz's.

Adding 'good' too, re Robert's terms of service explanation.

That's how it used to work under the old copyright laws. Since the US accession to the Berne Convention, however, that's not how it works now. Copyright inheres in a work the moment it's created, and publication without a copyright notice (which isn't even required anymore) does not put the work into the public domain.

@JTG198904,
As a fellow "poet, I consider your attitude to "your work" to be pretentious.
You should be flattered that anybody would like to utilize any part of it in a non-profit making manner. Your hissy fit on your "farewell thread" (on which you trotted out that tired old cliche' of "giving birth") supports this comment.
