Do you recognize the above symbol?

If you do - is it something you participate in and how is your kid's school doing with it?

If you do not - it is a program in which the school gets $.10 for each symbol (like the one above) is clipped and turned in to the school. The school turns them in twice a school year and the receive a check for this.

What do you think of these kinds of programs?

Just looking for feedback if you know what I'm talking about, even if you don't know what I'm talking about.

Obviously BoxTops and Campbell Soups have a vested interest in schools and families participating in these programs. Schools certainly need all the money they can get, particularly in these days of two career families who have less time to be active PTA members.

Aside from the monetary incentive, any activity that involves both School and Home has to be a plus. Parents can give lip service to education...learning is very important, blah, blah, blah....but actually taking the time to slice off box tops or soak off labels makes a visible investment in time and energy devoted to education which makes education seem more important.

I think the ethics involved here are a cut above taking money from either Coke or Pepsi for exclusive rights to peddle soda to students on school grounds and at school activities.

I like this boxtops program & although I'm pretty typically a store brand buyer (I've become very much name-bargain-only buyer since my daughter has been in Pre-K.

I've been able to get some of my co-workers who don't have children/grand children in school to give me their boxtops also - they've been really great sports about it.

Onyxelle--

I've found most people are very willing to Do Good if they are pointed towards a Good Project that doesn't make unreasonable demands on time and money. Given your energy levels, you've probably propositioned everyone on your floor of the courthouse for boxtop donations--and Onyxfille is toting a respectable number of offerings off to her teacher.

Hold your dominion.

I think it's a great idea. As Noddy said, the schools can use all the money they can get. You go girl ;-)

I don't follow it, but my wife has been religiously clipping them out and sending them to the school for several years. She's even got her mom and sister doing it for the kids too.
