I met someone from sixty years ago online and now I've been shut off

Let me guess it's kids shutting off their father.

I posted some photos quite a while ago of where we lived for a year with a Henry Hudson Parkway address.

A long time went by and I heard from the son of my parents' friends.

We've been talking off and on on gmail.

I've photos of his parents.
His old bicycle was my first.

Now all that has been eliminated. My poster has been eliminated from my list on gmail.

Doug Travers is his name. He is quite bright in his posts.
I am guessing he has been subsumed by his children or others.
Or maybe others, phobic as that sounds.

My gmail posts back to him are gone too.

I know this sounds weird but it f/k is.

I think this is worse than children trying to shut off a parent who is losing it. First of all, he wrote quite well.
We were just starting to talk about our fathers' careers.
I can't even find his posts to me, that I had barely read.
My post about sending him photos, gone gone gone. My gmail is now blanko.

Big ****.
J Edgar, is that you?

@ossobuco,
This sounds paranoid - I'll cheerfully agree with that.

If you hear of my place being burglarized or worse, raise an alarm.
Someone may be monitoring my posts (poor things) or his. I had just sent him a post about someone under my father showing a photo at a party in new york and my father losing his big clearance.

Immediately, all his history to me on gmail is gone.

I'm perplexed.

Some Body must be watching him or me.

We've been busy, off and on, talking about the apartment building we both lived in, me posting photos of it some long time ago on a2k, and his finding them.

I was eight. I deny culpability.

@edgarblythe,
I don't have a root celler. I have ant farms.

@ossobuco,
Is it possible that you have some kind of filter enable that's hiding the posts?

This happens to my clients on a regular basis.

I'm hoping I'm mistaken re the shutoff.

No, gone. All of our posts.
I don't even remember his email.
Thank you so much, google.

@ossobuco,
Gmail has weird blips of various types at various times. I find myself cursing it fairly regularly. My "real" account is not gmail for that reason.

So I'd suspect a blip before anything more foul.

I really don't know how his previous emails to you would be removed, anyway, just technically speaking.

@sozobe,
Maybe you've already done this, but I'd suggest signing out of gmail, restarting your computer, signing back in, and then seeing what there is to see. If it remains weird, check again tomorrow. (I've gotten fairly used to "wait it out" -- important things disappear, and then reappear.)

@sozobe,
All my other gmails are there.
His to me and mine to him are gone.

I would be very surprised if my signing out and back in brings our emails back.

But, I'll try it.

@ossobuco,
For example, my last two emails (past the a2k reports stuff) are

Jan 26, something about you tube
and
Gravatar, on August 5.

A lot missing.

@ossobuco,
Well, I replied to your pm before seeing this post. It does sound odd.

As a matter of fact, there have been a few incoming gmails in my own account that are no longer there. I'm quite sure I never trashed them, and I had pretty much set up that account so this particular person would have a place to send his stuff to. It was mostly propaganda.

There seems to be some rather frequent discussion of similar problems with gmail. I did a quick search and found this...

hmmm... not sure why that link broke off. Try pasting the whole thing in your browser window.

What is missing on my gmail is this guy. Who the **** took that out?

We have a lot of early mutual history. He never rode the bike either, as it turns out.

Of course, I cannot refer to his email on that since it is gone.

I have photos of his mother and (maybe his father) and my mother.

What we may have in common is that our fathers were somewhat left - not sure of that re his father. I wouldn't call my father all that left. Probably Hoover did.

I once asked for a report on my father and got something like seventeen sheets of black marked rows.

Meantime, I'm not sure I ever met this fellow. We don't know each other now, either.

But his posts to me are obliterated. I don't dislike or distrust him.

Assuming this is not just one more example of my failure to understand computers, I'm rolling my eyes at the shut out.

Here's a suggestion that may work...

Quote:
I had the same problem and I was stumped because I forwarded an e-mail and all of the messages in the conversation disappeared except for the one I had forwarded. I searched All Mail and the trash thinking that it would have ended up in there, but I followed the suggestion above and it was in the Spam folder. I don't know what I might have done to make that happen, as I don't think I accidentally typed ! or clicked "Report Spam", but at least it didn't disappear.

What makes it more frustrating is that the Spam folder isn't checked when you do a search (at least when a message is trashed, there's a warning that messages in Trash match the search), so the only way to find the message is to check in the Spam folder.

Did you check your Spam folder?

@JPB,
I'll try one more time.

I can see one of the other of our posts going away. Not every smidgeon of all of it. This was a fair sequence (he started out distrusting my photos). I took my photos when I was eight. Talking about that is how we connected. I think he started out thinking mine were a version of his.

We had both lived there. I like this guy (I think).

We were just getting into family history when our emails disappeared.
I have photos of his mother, for godsakes.

I agree with the collective.

more likely a user error of some sort than part of the kennedy grassy knoll thing...

@JPB,
What spam folder?

I remember one before, but it's not there now.

Even so, given they got rid of his, why would my posts be obliterated?
