I think deciding for a independent living center or assisted living facility depend on a elder him/herself or the family he/she is living with. Or the situation in which they are deciding for living facility. As if they really need and want to live independently at old age home with all assisted living facilities, they should opt for separate old age home.
Determining whether a relative requires an assisted living or independent living facility can be difficult and it all depends on his needs and health.

Independent living focuses on their lifestyle and personal care support. The best choice depends on the health, safety needs, and level of independence.
