@Mame,
perhaps it isn't groping, but saying a person rubbed up against my a$$ and had sex with it was a bit too much to write in the title. And yes the weight had an impact as if she were smaller, she would have been able to squeeze by without pressing up and pushing my body.

and besides that by eggerating the story === it makes much more fun.

Low-lifes because they are on the subway?

Oh, them. Well, that's life in the Big City - all sorts of types around all the time. You get used to it.

@Cycloptichorn,
I agree with that, Cyclo - I never got into backpacks, partly because I'm an old fart (fartress?), but mostly because I've been advanced on several times by groups of zingari in Italy and I don't like the idea of defending some zippers I could barely reach. So call me lightly packed duffle woman. I suppose if I were a serious hiker I'd use one, but, I'm not.

@Cycloptichorn,
Linkat often speaks tongue in cheek, and that's what I thought it was.

I just read further, guess Cyclo was right.

@Linkat,
We have obvious differences, but I tend to get you, link.
That can sound snarky, as I think your take on the masses is a mess, but I can also imagine it. (Not about the large barging woman, just about your fellow passengers in general).

Back with a post re me and shame -

@ossobuco,
We were on one of the Rome trains. A kid came up the aisle, singing and collecting. We didn't give. (I'm from Venice, Ca, you know, said self mockingly, lots of homeless flocking to there). The rest of the train car did. Romans are not without understanding of maneuvers and they still gave.
I did feel shame.

So cute of you to mislabel inadvertent contact as groping...what to do: either learn to deal or learn to give off attitude.

I am with Miller, back in the day prissy bitches got nowhere on the CTA by whining. Anybody with Linkats attitude was surely a day tripper to the big city, otherwise they would know better.

@hawkeye10,
Inadvertent? She was a barger.

My most recent experience with subways just pre work time (7 a.m.?) was in Rome, where people would grab the doors and force themselves in, followed by fluttering gypsies going for their pockets. I'm not actually against gypsies, I'm just saying what I saw. It was sort of funny.

That being said, I don't remember people pushing (after the door scene) to immolate bystanders, more self sorting.

I also had the experience of an older man seeing us completely confused, taking us to the right train, getting on himself to help us, and then getting back off. We were into 35 plus hours tired and I will always remember that guy.
Introduction to Italy.

@ossobuco,
Well, we're not talking about Italy here, osso, we're talking about North America. I don't know why you always have to bring Italy into things, other than you're so totally in love with it and them. Transit is different on every continent - try taking the subway in Hong Kong, for example - you get shoved, squeezed, pushed, pressed... you name it... totally unlike anything in North America, and it would not be appropriate for this particular topic.

@Mame,
That's my way, I'm a brat. But, I think cities that have subways in the u.s. do have differing populations, some perhaps from afar who know how to squegee to get onto the train to get to work. My own experience is that once people get on, they are not baboons. Maybe yours is different. I've taken subways in New York and Chicago not all that long ago, though not at 7 a.m.

@ossobuco,
actually I tend to get on well with my fellow passengers (believe it or not) - I think from some of my rants, people will picture me being some sort of snob or something. But I frequently get into conversations with fellow passengers. I am not a typical Bostonian although lived my whole life in the area.

For some odd reason, people like to engage in conversation with me - total strangers frequently start up conversations with me - but then again often times, I start up conversations with them. My husband (from the west oddly) frequently asks me - why do you end up talking with all these people. Honestly can't answer that.

I even have conversations with the bums. Yes I am frequently politically incorrect, but in person am actually quite nice.

@hawkeye10,
Ha ha - I have taken the subway/public transportation since I was old enough to travel on my own. Except for the 7 years or so where I had parking for work.

@Mame,
Not only North America - but what area - Boston, New York similar in many ways. But then even in certain areas within the same city there are differences. Where I tend to take, there is alot of Asians. You really need to watch out for the little old Asian ladies - they are mean, they will knock you off your feet to get on first and nab a seat.
