1. Suppose I find a link somewhere, eg,: “How to make taffy” ( yes, no, that’s not a link, it’s an example of what a link looks like) I copy it and insert it in a posting somewhere else, whereupon it comes out as:

http://www.google.ca/#hl=en&output=search&sclient=psy-ab&q=do+people+prefer+dogs+or+cats&oq=do+people+prefer+dogs+or+cats&gs_l=hp.3..0j0i8i30j0i22l2.2874.10845.0.11077.29.21.0.8.8.0.357.2890.0j20j0j1.21.0...0.0.vs5kv14-Rtk&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=c6c71ebb4be7d8a&biw=1588&bih=841

But how would I copy then past it into another posting somewhere else without losing its original abbreviated form

2. Along the same line, how do I convert a link to plain text as given in the example in first para above

Thanks guys

Basically the format is [url="WEB ADDRESS"]TITLE OF WEBSITE[/url]
So the code to a real example looks like so:
Code:[url="http://spoonful.com/recipes/sticky-stretchy-stuff"]How to make taffy[/url]

So for example:
How to make taffy

Thank you Asp but as I’m not as familiar with these routines as you, I’d appreciate a clarification. I have a link, eg, “How to make taffy” which contains no brackets so I’m not sure what to delete

@dalehileman,
Just copy and paste it, and the there will no link copied with the words, because in websites, in most cases, HTML is used to embed the link with the text on a website. When you copy it to the a2k type box, only the words will be copied and paste, but not the link. But if you want to link the text, you have to do the url format [url=""][/url]

For example if you go to youtube and copy such words:
Browse|Movies |Upload
As you can see, there is no links attached to it. But if you go to the youtube website
http://www.youtube.com/
and press those words on the top right hand corner, it'll take you to a new link.

Forgive me Asp but my familiarity with digital jargon is somewhat limited as I had always understood both the url and its abbreviation to be links. However when I attempt to copy and paste an abbreviation link what I get instead is a url link. What I’d like to do is somehow convert the abbreviation into ordinary text with which I can do anything I want

Eg, when I go copy-paste the abbreviation what I get is

http://www.google.ca/#hl=en&output=search&sclient=psy-ab&q=do+people+prefer+dogs+or+cats&oq=do+people+prefer+dogs+or+cats&gs_l=hp.3..0j0i8i30j0i22l2.2874.10845.0.11077.29.21.0.8.8.0.357.2890.0j20j0j1.21.0...0.0.vs5kv14-Rtk&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=c6c71ebb4be7d8a&biw=1588&bih=841

instead of “How to make taffy

Since your comprehension and vocabulary in this realm far exceed mine however, I won’t feel hurt if you decline to pursue my problem, but thank you anyhow

@dalehileman,
The website you are providing is google canada.
Back to the problem at hand, from what website are you trying to copy the "abbreviation" of How to make taffy. So I can get a better understanding...

@dalehileman,
If you see someone else's post, just select the quote button and their entire text including all the formatting will appear in the reply box. You can then cut and paste to your heart's content.

@dalehileman,
Eng my reply #300 the second time I revisited it didn’t come out as I had written it, when I realized that precisely because after “..get a...” I had entered something not in plain text

.....accidentally demonstrating the very problem I had tried to explain in the OP

Guys thanks much but evidently there’s no hope for me since we speak a different language and so I had said I won’t be offended if you give up on me

I shall however consult with our very good friend Bor Michaelson, a very high-ranking aerospace programmer, who understands how dense I am, and if he is able to help I will get back to you

@dalehileman,

if you are getting the quote tags at the end of the post, try selecting the text you want to quote, and then click the quote button...

Well, if that's the case, then simply take out the http or www in front of the link.
For example:
able2know.org

So the web address doesn't take you to the link, and it's just plain text.

Sure Phil, I guess that ought to work and I’ll try it.

http://www.go ogle.ca/#hl=en&output=search&sclient=psy-ab&q=do+people+prefer+dogs+or+cats&oq=do+people+prefer+dogs+or+cats&gs_l=hp.3..0j0i8i30j0i22l2.2874.10845.0.11077.29.21.0.8.8.0.357.2890.0j20j0j1.21.0...0.0.vs5kv14-Rtk&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=c6c71ebb4be7d8a&biw=1588&bih=841

Well, interesting. Apparently it converts everything to the right of the space

h ttp://www.google.ca/#hl=en&output=search&sclient=psy-ab&q=do+people+prefer+dogs+or+cats&oq=do+people+prefer+dogs+or+cats&gs_l=hp.3..0j0i8i30j0i22l2.2874.10845.0.11077.29.21.0.8.8.0.357.2890.0j20j0j1.21.0...0.0.vs5kv14-Rtk&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=c6c71ebb4be7d8a&biw=1588&bih=841

Tho in that case it converted only everything to the left, eg, the “h"

However can anyone tell me how one changes the abbreviated version to plain text

@dalehileman,
After your link is copied and you're ready to share it, type this:

[url=

paste your link. then type this character:

]

type your desired plain text, then type this:

[/url]

the statement goes: [url=your pasted link]your desired plain text[/url]

below I've linked google's homepage url but the link says "How To Make Taffy":

How To Make Taffy. click it. it goes to google.

Even though the link says "How To Make Taffy", I pasted http://www.google.com/ after the [url=
