That Wipe Out hit song jarred my memory for another of that same musical era...by the Tonadoes (Ventures did it too). Surprisingly, The Tornados were the first British group to have a # 1 single in the US. Interestingly, it was the only instrumental single to hit #1 on both the US and UK weekly charts.

OK...here's an audience participation. Pick your favorite version...
of Baby It's You (Burt Bacharach song written in 1961)

Leslie Uggams (since when is she a rocker?) introduces Smith (singing the best-selling hit version of this song):

The Shirelles:

Beatles cover version:

Just for fun, I'm including Adele singing her version (Burt Bacharach intro and playing piano);

Pretty hard for singers to do cover versions once Ben E. King sings them:

@edgarblythe,
As a longtime wanna-be singer, I'd sell my soul for a voice like his. Oh yeagh and add Sam Cooke to that list.

Is that the famous Adele read new, that has been winning all the awards, Ragman?

@JTT,
Yes, that's her. As for awards, she most likely will win them for years to come. she has her head on straight and in interviews she's a bit blunt...but funnily so. That video was of her when she was a bit heavier. She has since lost weight. She is such a natural talent and soulful as they come.
