@Phoenix32890,
Now that's strange. I was just thinking about how you always saw the Beatles, the Kinks, the Yardbirds, Jay and the Americans--all those jokers in suits with ties. I think the change came in the 1970s.

@Setanta,
I think it happend sort of around 1968 or maybe after Woodstock! Never ever recall Hendrix in a tie at any point.

Maybe it came with Sgt. Pepper in 1967 . . .

Speaking of the Kinks (and i did just speak of the Kinks), this was their first big hit in 1964. (I have no idea what that dancing is about, at the end there, but it is entertaining in a goofy sort of way.)

These are my two favorite Kinks songs. "Well Respected Man" is from 1965 . . .

. . . and "Sunny Afternoon" was released as a single in 1966 . . .

@Setanta,
I love the Dionne Warwick-Burt Bacharach collaboration, pretty much every time, but I do prefer this version by Bobbie Gentry, particularly because of the last verse.

@edgarblythe,
FWIW, I recall rumors that John Denver was a New Christy Minstrel member. in reality his uncle was a member. However, John Denver and Randy Sparks, the founder of NCM, were friends. it was he that suggested using the stage name Denver to John.

@Ragman,
Maybe you're thinking of the Chad Mitchell Trio

@Ragman,
I don't know about John D. At my first Dylan concert (Long Beach, Ca, 1964) Barry McGuire sat a few seats ahead of me. He got to go backstage at half time.

@panzade,
You caught in me in mid-edit. John ( real name Deutschendorf) Denver was linked to the group. Randy Sparks provided a fast-track to find suitable replacements to NCM largish stable of performers. In John's case, he went solo before he actually became part of that group. FWIW, John D's uncle Dave did become a more recent NCM member.

Yes, it is true that he was part of Chad Mitchell Trio.

After Chad left the CM Trio, " ... Mitchell left the trio in 1965 to embark on a solo singing career. Another audition process replaced him with the young (and unknown) singer/songwriter John Denver. The group retained the well-known "Mitchell Trio" name, with Denver writing some of the group's songs."

I was into the Kinks during the "invasion," my high school days, i lost track of them after that. I got sick to death of hearing "Lola." But i always liked their religious devotional music . . .
