In the United States, are ordained individuals working for religious organizations exempt from social security?

the only ones I know , eve remotely similar to that status are the AMISH. They are exempt from Soc Security and Medicare taxes
@farmerman,
I believe that's a practical, rather than religious exemption. That is, they've demonstrated an ability and willingness to care for their elderly without outside interference.
