You're a trooper, Pdawg.

Family stuff again. The nice thing about having several siblings is that when it goes south between two, there's someone else to talk to.

Yeah, if the extended family is close, cousins are like that, too.

@littlek,

Never ever trust me.

I made those words up.

The founder of aldaily died recently.

He was really the first significant aggregator. I've been using the site as my home page since sometime in 1999. Topics of interest from aldaily were early common touchpoints with debacle and merry andrew. I miss my dear dill pickle and monsewer andre. I also miss Aa tremendously. I know that she's happy and busy and well happy, but damn I miss her.

@farmerman,
http://www.aldaily.com/

http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/newsdesk/2010/12/denis-dutton.html

Quote:
Founded in 1998, Arts & Letters Daily was the first and foremost aggregator of well-written and well-argued book reviews, essays, and other articles in the realm of ideas.

Denis was the intellectual’s Matt Drudge. Like the Drudge Report, aldaily.com has a retrograde design that has barely evolved over the years; Denis said he modelled it on the eighteenth-century broadsheet.

Nevertheless, it became the home page of professors, students, editors. To be featured on Arts & Letters Daily meant your work would be read and discussed, whether you were Christopher Hitchens or a struggling neophyte, whether your piece appeared in The New Yorker or an obscure site with six regular readers.

@ehBeth,
Just staggered home from having car break down in middle of intersection of two major highways.

It's HOT.

It's DARK.

People were unkind....

Fortunately managed to get it to start again after a while while I was waiting for emergency assistance.

Limped home just as it died again. Automatic transmission gone, I believe, from symptoms.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

@dlowan,
It's always something. Sorry to hear this, bunny. I don't know nuttin' about cars, but I'm assuming that the transmission is important.

May your troubles be washed away in the new year, kid.

@dlowan,
Yikes, I've been through that (19th Ave. and something, in San Francisco). I thought I might expire from adrenalin rush. (People behaved badly, except for one who helped push the damned car in a messy situation). I was on my way to Los Angeles.
Shortening the story, I lived, having spent the weekend in SF since the garage the car was towed to then closed, and once "fixed", the car died something like six more times and had two expensive visits to the Volvo scamm.. dealer in LA. Turned out to be the third thing they tried to fix with the computer system.
