Drain?

Is it a middle ear or outer ear infection?

Do you have plans to go to the doctor?

(I'm sure you know this but if it's a middle ear infection, and it's draining, don't put ANYTHING in your ear...)

Hope that everything's on track for JPB to be in SC tomorrow...

Isn't draining a good thing? I have no idea where the infection is. I can hear it clog and unclog, if that helps....? I don't have plans to go to the doctor. Should I? I can't really afford to.

Draining might be good if it's an outer ear infection -- I know far less about that. If it's middle ear, draining can be fine, but it means that your eardrum has perforated. That means nothing (including water) should go in your ear until it's healed.

If your eardrum has perforated, it shouldn't still hurt.

Being stuffy doesn't have anything in particular to do with outer ear infections, but has a lot to do with middle ear infections.

Could the "draining" just be the last of the oil making its way out? Or liquefied wax?

Uhmmmmm..... no, I'm pretty sure this is draining. It pops, fizzles, grunges and throbs then ejects some runny reddish stuff <lovely!>.

How does one tell if it's an inner or an outer ear infection?

Runny reddish-orange could be liquefied wax.

The oil step makes me nervous, I'm not sure what effects that could be expected to have.

If it were a middle ear infection that resulted in a perforated eardrum, I'd expect the pain to stop as soon as there was a perforation (in other words, pain OR drainage, not both), and that your hearing in that ear would be worse than usual.

Hard to say at this distance though -- if problems continue Monday, I'd definitely recommend having an ENT check it out. Sorry that would be a financial hit.

More info at the Mayo Clinic site:

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/ruptured-eardrum/DS00499/DSECTION=2
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/swimmers-ear/DS00473/DSECTION=2

From those descriptions, seems like outer ear infection ("Swimmer's ear") is more likely.

Feel better!

Hmm, dunno. The last ear infection of that kind I had was ten years ago, but still. I remember having pain with the drainage. For several days. Could be individual, who knows. In any case, I've no fond memories of that.
As well as bouts of shaky balance, as if drunk. But sans fun.

Late last night I noticed that at some point -- likely the previous week when we (and the dogs) were gone -- someone had come into our screened porch and stolen my bike. The thing only cost me a couple hundred bucks, but I loved that bike. First bike I've ever ridden that didn't cost a fortune, rode smoothly, and fit my frame.

Assholes.

Grimacing again today, as temps are in the upper 70s and I'd love to go for my first ride off the spring...

But now I notice we're on a tornado watch, so maybe a long ride through the moraine wouldn't have been the best thing.

Sounds like your ear drum has perforated (happened to both mine a few years ago) because the pressure of the infected stuff busted it.

Yes, it feels way better when it drains, but this was the advice given to me:

Take antibiotics.

(Surely you have been to the doctor by now?)

Don't, for chrissake put ANYTHING in there. Your ear is already infected, and is now open for any **** you introduce from outside. I was told off for even wiping stuff from outside my ear with a tissue too close to the ear hole.

Get to a doctor!

Mine felt better when it drained for a bit, and then the pressure would build up until it hurt like hell again, then it would pop and gurgle and all that, and drain some more, and so on.

I've only just found out that I'd booked two cards for a concert (already last September) for the Saturday ..... when I'm in New York.

Well, the concert is indeed here in Germany: in June, and I'd thought it would be in July.

It's Mrs. Walter's favourite male German singer - whom I dislike since he first played at some law faculty party 35 years ago.
So, I could have posted this in the thread as well - but I honestly really mixed up the months and actually those cards were a present for Mrs Walter ... (Last year, I've been in Albuquerque at our wedding day Embarrassed )

I now work at a discount outlet store and our clientele is vast. All of them are slobs. I just want to wring them by their necks and ask them if they keep their houses the same way.....I feel much better now.
