Yes, the results are the most important thing.

Pinch. Ouch.

My mammogram was with a flat thingie, seemed like it was much squeezier than it really needed to be.

I had my first mammogram last year, and was NOT impressed. So I have a teeny tiny flavor of how awful that must've been.

Would it be SO hard to create plates that are at least curved instead of flat? I really think the whole mammogram apparatus is ripe for major upgrading.

Sadly, the flattening is to attempt to be able to scan thoroughly and is necessary.

Even given this, and the improvements in the equipment, cancers get missed....especially in younger women where the breast tissue is denser...or in a group which has turned out to be an extremely high risk ....those who happen to have especially dense breast tissue regardless of age.

When I had a suspicious lump on mammography, I was given lovely, painless, ultrasound, though....not more torture with the awful squishy thing!!!

Who knows how much squeeziness is necessary. But that's what standard mammograms are like. Squeezing on flat plates.

I'm hoping that this discussion doesn't discourage anybody from getting a standard screening. A standard screening is not what I was talking about here. I said at the outset that they're at best uncomfortable and at worst a bit painful. I don't want to scare anybody off. I had surgery for the removal of a benign tumor when I was 24. Don't wait.

Noddy, I'm generally better at "sembling" than dissembling. But I try. Thanks for the glory. (I've stopped wimpering.)

Deb is right. Men can get breast cancer. Not common though.

Can't even imagine how men would react to testegrams. Shocked Smelling salts and stretchers come to mind.

Been working on income tax returns. What a lovely job that is, eh?

I owe $352 for 2006 due to my daft employer not taking quite enough off between Jan and April of last year. Sad

What worries me more is that I just also did my oldest daughter's return (who is 26) and she owes a little over $1400. Shocked It looks like to me one of her employers wasn't taking off enough tax (or no tax) on some of her pay periods.

I fear that dad may be asked to help out somewhat with the debt owing. Crying or Very sad

I have a friend who is just starting out her new business and owes 2200 om taxes this year.
Her own fault, and she knows it.. but the IRS allows payment plans up to one year. So , dad may not have to help if daughter can stick to a payment plan?

Here it's called the Canada Revenue Agency. Yes, you can probably pay in installments, too, but she's really strapped for cash. Has credit card debt and a loan to repay on top of this nasty business.

My wife and I have agreed to probably pay $400, and I'm also thinking of selling my new camera as well to help out. My wife thinks she's got an inherited ring that might be worth a wee bit of money.

Friends are here on visit.
He was doing some cycling, returned, put his bike back in the car, closed the back door .... but left the key inside.

For whatever reasons (theft security), the car completely got locked seconds later.
Besides that they live 100 miles away: their second key got lost recently, and the new one wont arrive before next week.

So, we phoned the Volkswagen emergency hotline.
Someone will arrive shortly .... to bash a window, it seems Twisted Evil

Oh lord Walter, that happened to us once in the middle of the desert in South Africa. Luckily we located a Sleutelman - how, I can't remember - in the nearest town (about 30 miles away) who came and rescued us. It's the feeling so stupid that remains with you!!

Thanks, Clary.

Well, the mechanic tried it ..... for an hour, until he had no other idea than to really bash a (the smallest, since cheapest) window.

But since i's raining, we can't plaster the "whole": everything is just wet.

I'm leaving in 24 hours for a much needed one week vacation in Myrtle Beach. I spent yesterday and the day before doing laundry, pulling luggage out of storage, and generally planning for our trip. Last night we had almost two inches of rain. We woke up this morning to 3 - 4 inches of water in the basement, 4 laundry baskets full of no longer clean clothes, and wet luggage - neither sump pump was working (no idea why). I noticed that my grow lamp was also not working, so I wiggled the plugs at the outlet. The grow lamp and one of the two sump pumps kicked in and the basement began to drain.

As of last night, I had a 14 hour day of work planned to get caught up from last week's lapse and next week's absence. Now, I have a 14 hour day of work, 12 loads of laundry to do, and luggage to purchase. I can't leave to get the luggage until the plumber comes and I've no idea when that will be.

It could have been worse, of course. The standing water is now gone, the laundry is in process, the plumber will come eventually, it's better to have happened before we left than while we were gone and all that, but I'm still G&Ging.

Thanks, l'k and eoe. I'm just trying to stay focused on the tasks and not think about it. Yep - the prize is in focus!

The plumber came and left. Literally two minutes before he arrived I went over to the other sump well and shook the outlet pipe. The pump kicked in and was working perfectly (as was the other one) when the plumber arrived. All three plugs (two sumps and the grow light) work from the same outlet panel. It seems the outlet cap (an interface between the plugs and the outlets) somehow came loose (damn cats!) and disconnected power to all three plugs. When I noticed the grow light was out, I pushed on this and that and the light came back on. When I lifted the lid off the sump wells, one of the sumps kicked in. The other kicked in when I shook the outlet pipe. It seems that restoring power was insufficient to trip the floats and begin cycling the pumps.

Grrrrrrrr!

Sun, surf, sand, and seafood - here I come!
