Do you guys know how to do piecewise functions? Can you explain it?

@GracieGirl,
It comes down to how y reacts to different x values. If you have a function f(x)=y that behaves differently for different values of x then the function should be evaluated in pieces. This is an outcome when the resulting graph isn't continuous or it looks different when the domain of x is in groups.

Do you have an example of a problem you can post?

@JPB,
Thanks for the links guys! I'm usually really really good at algebra but I'm just not getting it... Sad

I'll take a pic of the problems I need help with in my textbook, upload them to flicker and then post the link. Smile

@GracieGirl,
The video that bfn posted provides a really clear explanation.

@Butrflynet,
Thanks! That helps with some of my problems but the ones I really need help with are the ones where they give me a graph and I have to write an equation.

@Butrflynet,
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!! Very Happy

Thats awesome Butrflynet! finding the formula isnt as hard as I thought. My teacher just explained it differently and it seemed super complicated. Smile

These are some of the problems I needed help with (if the link works) :

@GracieGirl,
Good luck with them. If you get stuck, post your work and we can probably answer questions about it.

@Butrflynet,
Thanks! I will!
Im all done with homework, Finally, lol. Tommorow we're still gonna be working on piece functions but we're gonna go over absolute value functions too.. soo, yeah I might need more help. Haha!
Thanks a lot! Very Happy

@GracieGirl,
Just in case you need it tomorrow:

absolute value functions:

http://www.mathsisfun.com/sets/function-absolute-value.html

also, this is the same guy that did that second video about converting a graph into a piecewise formula.

If you need more trig help, bookmark this guy's youtube channel. He's got literally hundreds of videos on all aspects of trig for beginners and advanced math folks.

If you do a search on his channel page for just the word "absolute" you'll see he's got a dozen videos just on all aspects of absolute functions.

He's also got a lot more videos on piecewise functions if you need more help with those.
