Beth/Set and Parados I wonder what's going on their - if I didn't know you I'd suspect you had new computers and/or never used the web. I wonder if it's a browser issue?

@hingehead,
It's browser and habits. I use ad block.

I do a fair amount of online shopping and even use google to find the best prices.

Boomer and Osso - I wonder why it thinks you are both male? Do you surf with deep voices? How odd. Perhaps you have tiny little lady testicles?

@hingehead,
Re shopping + apparel -

Thinking, thinking, I might have clicked on a clothing ad once, mebbe a year ago.

And now the light dawns - I used to read The Sartorialist, a clothing photography site, and sometimes I couldn't get in to it, something defective about my cookies, and I clicked on the ad next to the photos. And then the next time I couldn't get in again. And so on - but I block cookies from third parties and advertisers.
I guess that explains a lot.

@hingehead,
I surf a lot of subjects -- as I was going on about in my first post, and some of those might be taken as male (football? politics?), but they seem to have missed all those interests.

Besides, Ceili's male too. This makes me feel better.

@hingehead,
It may be that they've never ever clicked on any Google ad links and have never clicked on recommended shopping sites highlighted in a Google search.

Ah HA HA HA~!

They have me pegged as an 18-24 male also.

That's weird because the list they got from my cookie was...

Beauty and health
Shopping
Finance
Job listings (I looking)
online games

I guess they figured a woman wouldn't be looking at finance pages, but must be young because I shopped.

@Butrflynet,
I thought it was about your search terms rather than clicking on Google ads - maybe I should read the fineprint. I wasn't aware I ever clicked on the ads.

@Butrflynet,
that could be it

I don't think I've ever clicked on a Google ad link, and we don't shop online

@hingehead,
if it's about search terms, we'd get something truly whack between the history stuff Set is interested in and my recent search for a zeppelin documentary

I'm pretty sure I never click on ads about Los Angeles, or Albuquerque, or Santa Fe. I think I did look up hotels there once a couple of years ago, but that's nothing like the way I waste time by checking out booking.com about cheap but interesting hotels in Rome, and that's not mentioned. Maybe those are listed since I have checked the weather at these places.

Couple of surprises there---nothing about the science and economics stuff I read on the web, super-detailed preferences about politics and law, nothing they found out about my demographics.

Good! It seems I managed to confuse them. But I'll opt out of the thing just to be sure.

Thinking again (this could get to be a habit) - sometimes I click on ads at the side of a page by mistake, especially in newspapers, you can hardly help but hit them as you got to put some subject in a search line, or whatever.

Nah. I watch porn online, and I don't have that line in my preferences.

@hingehead,
Fascinating! They think I'm a male and younger than I am!

And believe me it's not because I get porn.

It also mainly thinks I'm interested in computers and electronics, which is odd since I search lots and lots for books, art, political info, historical info, animal info.

Google has me all wrong!

They have my locality pinpointed ("World Localities - North America - USA - Midwest (USA) - Ohio - Columbus (OH)") but they think I'm a 45-54 year old male.

All that politics?

Every woman who has replied to this thread (except those that don't have any type of profile) have been pegged as being men.

That is Ceili, me, osso, chai, dlowen, and soz.

Weird.
