@Butrflynet,
The boy is off his feed. Whatever th reason for going to the moon had better make econ sense. Im not sure that the amount of He3 is enough to "colonize a friggin satellite". ANorthosite and bytownite and diabase and basalt can be found here on earth, a lot easier.

Like the political backing of many of these "green energy" companies, what the hell do the politicians know about engineering and science?? Even the engineer politicians are rusty and the historians from congress are all lunes

@farmerman,
The moon is the ultimate high ground. Do you know how many countries have the capability to destroy US satellites at any orbit? Over 20. Somebody will get there and do it and Newt Gingrich has already said he'd rather have the US take the lead. Helium isotopes are only a small part of the potential payoff.

@High Seas,
Are you able/willing to tell us if the Republican candidate you were (are) advising is still in the race for the nomination?

@JPB,
Thanks for asking; for a number of reasons (professional and legal) I have to keep quiet Smile

@High Seas,
what are some of the others? There arent any resources beyond H3 thatweve discovered so far that would make a "mining colony" feasible. there is some zircon but hell, thats all over the home base .

Newt is just being Newt, hes getting himself primed to shoot himself in his foot.

Better Hi Def TV?

Really, the only real reason I see for such a colony now is for emergency reasons, like setting up a series of launch bases to take out some NEO's or prepare to wipe out another Tunguska event. However, think we will be ready by "Newt's second term end?"

I think he just waxes Newtistically

I'm all for a lunar base, but not if we have to go even deeper into debt to establish it.

Leave it to commercial interests, and if there is a military application, piggy-back on US commerce.

We need to talk about reform of near sacred entitlement programs if there is any chance of balancing our budget. There is no room for federal spending on a lunar base until our finances are put in order.

If free enterprise wants to go for it...God bless them!

BTW - This is yet another silly suggestion by Newt that, in his mind, allows him to lay claim to the title of formulater of bold, new ideas,and maybe it does with people who consider smart phones magical.

Does anyone think that a lunar base could be stymied by anything other than funds?

When JFK pledged to land a man on the moon, the technology wasn't there and waiting, it had to be imagined and developed.

Now if Gingrich starts talking about nano-tech initiatives or massive AI projects, I might be interested.

Newt watched a few old Outer Limits episodes and thinks he's living on the razor's edge.

I faintly recall in the past hearing a suggestion that old republican dudes really miss the whole cold war/space race kind of America...

@Finn dAbuzz,
could've been. it's been a while, but the idea was that part of the reason why the us went to war with iraq and afghanistan was that some just kind of missed that "common enemy" sense of old
