Why are some threads preceded by a pulsating ? and why are some orange and some blue? Same with the colours of the little globe icon fronting each forum. Also why are some threads fronted by a little "page" icon and others aren't? And some are orange, and others are white/gray?

Fishin answered this recently, so I'll paste what he wrote here...
A "!" means it's an Announcement A Triangle is for Featured Discussions A "?" is for just plain old discussions A Padlock is for threads that have been locked If you go into a specific forum (instead of just the "New Posts" list) and scroll all the way to the bottom there is a legend that displays at the bottom of the page.

...If it's orange it means there've been new posts in the thread since you last visited. If it's pulsating it means it's a popular thread (I think the threshold is 100 posts or so...it used to be 15).
