The other night I made sopa de fideo, although instead of fideo I used La Moderna brand vermicelli which is a bit thinner than their fideo, and which my wife prefers.

@InfraBlue,
When it comes to pasta,I prefer vermicelli myself. But I don't do sopa all that often. Usually a meat sauce to cover the pasta.
