@JGoldman10,
I think they're Oriental actors wh have appeared in martial arts films. Jet Li was in a really good film with Bob Hoskins about a fighter who is raised to think he's an animal, set in the East End. Can't remember the name, sorry, Jackie Chan has a good sense of humour, I liked him in Shanghai Knights with Owen Wilson.

As for Bruce Lee, I really can't comment, I started watching Enter The Dragon the other night, I tuned in part way through, saw about ten minutes, thought it was crap and turned over before Bruce Lee even made an appearance.

@izzythepush,
Yes - they are Chinese actors that appeared in kung-fu movies.

If you think it's gay to like them you are insane.

I'm a racist for saying you are completely out of touch with how black people dress, and talk, and look, and sound, these days?

What little you know seems to come from 30 year old media images of entertainers.

If you make your comic "multi-cultural" then the kids from all those other cultures will be laughing themselves silly, right along with the black kids.

You can't fake being cool, Jason, either you have it or you don't. You don't.

@ehBeth,
I DO NOT CARE ABOUT THAT.

I will TELL THEM WHAT TERMS I AM USING AND WHAT DEFINITIONS I AM USING.

IF YOU DON"T KNOW WHO SEAN "PUFFY" COMBS IS, YOU ARE LIVING UNDER A ROCK.

ASK SOME AFRICAN-AMERICANS ABOUT THIS- I AM CERTAIN THEY WILL DISAGREE WITH YOU.

I DO NOT CARE WHAT SOME WHITE PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY.

STOP BEING A PESSIMIST AND A RACIST.

I'm not bothered about poofy Sean. We've got Dizzee Rascal. He's really good, and not at all poofy.

This comic book--for children--will have annotations? To explain your definitions? So the kids will know what the hell you are talking about? Laughing

@firefly,
Yes - '80s and '90s references. I grew up in the '80s and '90s. What is your point?

Being a CHRISTIAN is more important than following trends.

Careful, Jason, your own racist credentials are showing. Better tuck them back under your skirt.

My point is it's 2011--almost 2012--so why would a kid today be interested in your archaic slang and references? Is this a historical comic book you are working on? Rolling Eyes

Knowing what's going on in current culture, the society around you, isn't exactly "following trends"--it's about being connected to reality and other people. Most Christians manage to do just that.

Why is no one responding about "Cuffy"?

Cuffy is slang meaning:

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=cuffy

cuffy 17 up, 8 down
The illest nigga alive

But other dictionaries define cuffy as:

http://www.websters-online-dictionary.org/definitions/Cuffy

Noun 1. A name for a negro.[Websters].
Cuffy A negro; both a generic word and proper name.

If I use the name "Cuffy" are going to think of the racial term?

Cuffy was also the name of of the man who led the slave rebellion in Guyana:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuffy_(person)

I am asking again- WHY IS NO ONE RESPONDING ABOUT "CUFFY"?

Is naming a character "Cuffy" like naming a character "Sambo"?

What about "Mandingo"?:

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=mandingo&page=4

25. mandingo 23 up, 115 down
Generally a black athlete of extremely prowess.
That mandingo is unstopable out there. He's having his way with other players out there.

@firefly,
If you mean keeping up with current tech- I am not interested in all that. I am interested in getting digital art programs and getting things like web cameras and the proper equipment so I can upload web virals.

If you don't know that Sean Combs hasn't used Puffy for years ...

You think you're going to put definitions into your comic? I can't wait to tell my publisher friends your latest Laughing

Why are you bothering to ask?

@ehBeth,
Forget "Puffy" - what about using "Cuffy" and "Mandingo"?

Why is no one answering this?

If I use "Cooly" are people going to think of "Cooley", as in "Cooley High"?

I am asking a SERIOUS question about BLACK LANGUAGE and NO ONE IS ANSWERING THIS.

@ehBeth,
Because I am getting the impression that the "consensus" you are talking about is MOSTLY WHITE and that is BIASED.

Did you not see my questions about those OTHER BLACK TERMS I POSTED ABOVE? "Cuffy", "Mindingo" and "Cooly"?

Or are you not familiar with these terms? Those are BLACK SLANG terms I am asking questions about and no one is answering.

ARE OTHER BLACKS GOING TO BE OFFENDED BY THESE TERMS?
