I am working on a multicultural comic book about streetfighting cats and dogs that fight crime and I am researching slang terms to use as nicknames for the cats and dogs in my comic.
I wanted to know if these nicknames for black characters are offensive?:
Cooly
Cuffy?
Urbandictionary gives the definition of Cooly as:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=cooly
cooly 9 up, 33 down
A cooly is a freind, associate, or simply another cool individual.
and Cuffy as:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=cuffy
cuffy 17 up, 8 down
The illest nigga alive
wow i dont understand why that cuffy kid is so abap
I know the word coolie had something to do with blacks in the '70s and is a racial term used for West Indians and Cuffy is a term used for a leader of a slave revolt down there but are people going to think that when they see these terms and get offended?
I was also thinking of Cooley High:
I think Cooley was a racial term for blacks in the '70s.
I am curious- some people were making a big fuss over the word "puffy".
I have some other black slang terms I want to use as nicknames- When I can think of them and come up with them I will post them later.
Please help - thank you.
