I would like to know how to describe an old person with really outdated thoughts. I thought about old and decadent. but I am not sure. I want it to sound ironic.
(this is for a piece of translation work)
@lizfeehily,
curmudgeon
unless it's a crossword puzzle question
@lizfeehily,
suggestions:
old fogey
superannuated
old coot
Do
not use "decadent." It has a connotation of dissipation rather than just age and has nothing to do with "out-dated thoughts."
@roger,
Yeah, curmudgeon is good, too.
@lizfeehily,
living in the past
outdated thinking
(Just because a person has opinions that are outdated does not make him/her stupid. They probably don't have new information or recent technology.
If you are talking about outdated social thinking (like young girls have to have chaparone all this time) then this might be some old cultural customs now being challenged. )
@lizfeehily,
That person would be called an anachronism.
