Why do you suppose Jesus never condemned slavery?

@Frank Apisa,
I agree. Although I never liked saying this, religion throughout history, have been used to control the masses, and with dire consequences, such as the Crusades, and 9-11-2001. So why doesn't God or any other deity of a religion smite these people down that use His name for violence? And why doesn't He stop the endless suffering we all experience? If God was caring and loves all of his children, he shouldn't be massacring them in droves.

From a religious stand point, yes. Jesus was the son of God, not God Himself. He was bound to make Human miscalculations and errors as well, it would seem.

If I have to take your word for that, Logicus...you've gotta fill me in on how you KNOW Jesus was the son of God.

I don't, which is why I find this discussion a bit out of my depth.

@Logicus,
My guess has always been that Jesus...and the men who reported what he supposedly said...were humans.

They lived in a time when slavery was rife.

The god of the Bible told the Hebrews that slavery was just fine with him...that they could own and trade in slaves.

So...Jesus...and the men who reported what he supposedly said and taught...

...thought there was nothing wrong with it.

My guess!

So you do believe in God? Or are you arguing a different point?

That's the 10 out of 10 on your own homework. A bloody gain. However many A2K posts you have to your name is as many again.

Jesus didn't condemn Ponzi schemes, suicide bombers, leaking classified information, performance enhancing drugs, co2 emissions and much else but, and I am sorry to be the one to tell you, His failure is not a sufficient reason to justify your personal involvement in serious infractions of the Christian moral teaching on rumpy-pumpy.

You should man up and defend your behaviour properly as I easily could. Hiding behind Jesus is pitiful and especially so when it's your own definition of slavery you are working with.

It surprises me that you still think we don't know what it is you are up to with your nonsensical argument. It's just trouser zipper philosophy old boy.

I do not do "believing."

I do not know if there is a GOD; I do not know if there are no gods; I do not see unambiguous evidence upon which to base a meaningful guess.

My point is that I think (guess) that Jesus was a human being...and a Hebrew. The god of the Hebrews supposedly told the Hebrews that there was nothing wrong with slavery...that they were allowed to own and trade in slaves.

I suspect Jesus thought this to be definitive.

Try a new schtick, Spendius. This one is growing whiskers.

There were no Ponzi schemes, suicide bombers, leaking classified information, performance enhancing drugs, co2 emissions to condemn, Spendius. I thought you might know that.

There was slavery. And Jesus never condemned it. Neither did the god he worshiped.

Well then...you "properly defend my behaviour."

I don't have to. My behavior is fine.

Yes, by now we all know that when Spendius is pontificating...sex is in his mind. You are obsessed with sex, Spendius. Try getting some once in a while...it may relieve you.

I've am not as afraid of sex...or bothered by it as much as you, Spendius.

You ought to spend some time doing it...rather than thinking about it.

I see. So not a religious person, are you? I am not. I'd rather use logic and science to find Truths about the universe, not rely on some priests or missionaries to tell me to start worshiping this omnipotent entity. Still, it is hard to stay that way, due to social pressure, and threats of damnation.

I am not a religious person. I simply do not know if there is a GOD (or are gods)...or not. There may be a GOD (or gods)...but that certainly does not mean I must "worship" them...and I do not particularly care about social pressures or about threats of damnation.

@Frank Apisa,
Jesus just appeared to me, he didn't condemn slavery at all. What he did condemn was The Jeremy Kyle Show, referring to it as a 'pile of ****,' and its host as 'the worst sort of arsehole imaginable.' When I asked him about slavery he told me to 'get a life.'

Thinking about it, it might not have been Jesus after all, it might have been the postman. He did hand me a bunch of letters, but the Lord does move in mysterious ways.

In any event, it's something to think about.

You're only not afraid of sex because you don't understand the matter due to being a fundie misogynist.

But that is neither here nor there. Attacks on Christianity are motivated by sex.

Assuming A2kers are as naive as you seem to be is ignorant and arrogant.

Describe the fantasies and techniques that work at 78. Help me out. Able me to Know.

C'mon, Spendius. Give it a go.

Women are even better than your fist...and they can help you when you get confused as to what goes where and how various things work.

I think you will enjoy it.

HINT: Deep six the Jane Austen nonsense. That will just make them laugh. A few giggles are fine...usually means things are working. But out-and-out laughter...as Jane Austen and some of those other references you think are so cool will evoke...is a killer.

Good luck! Wink
