@Linkat,
The poor husband had nothing to do with the 911 call. Every man understands what really happened here.

When I was a small child, I was "lost" in a corn field. Wink I wasn't lost, but my mother thought I was. I was hiding. Had a great time. She didn't call the police. I eventually emerged.

@maxdancona,
Well, it's not like he could find the way out, y'know.

Good point, but I'd hate to ruin the maze "walls" if I didn't really have to.
All the corn mazes I've ever been have already been ruined by all the kids blasting straight through the walls. I'm amazed these oeople didn't just walk straight out by stomping corn stalks.

@rosborne979,
In today's Lebanon Reporter (print edition, page 3), I've found this interesting news:
Quote:
DANVILLE — This year’s exciting and challenging new corn maze, “Get Lost in a Book,” is scheduled to open Friday, at Beasley’s Orchard, 2304 E. Main St., Danville. “Get Lost in a Book” has been created to encourage reading throughout one’s lifetime. It is now in its ninth season. The Beasley family and maze designer Brett Herbst, the world’s leading professional designer of corn mazes, hope to challenge the wits of those seeking to find the one exit from this intricate network of twists and turns carved into six acres of corn.

I wonder how "our" couple had reacted, when they'd been lost in a corn maze AND in a book Wink

Ha, I don't know. Smile But I wonder how these people would have reacted if they didn't have a cell phone with them. If they didn't have the ability to call for assistance, might they have taken more time to think about their options?

Isn't that like being the world's tiddly-winks champion? I wouldn't think that was a very lucrative "profession."

He was about to find the way out. She just wouldn't listen to him.

@Setanta,
You're not correct on this one, Set. Brett Herbst does over 200 designs per year and depending on the size of the design and his involvement he charges thousands of dollars for design, installation and training. He also sells a bunch of do-it-yourself videos and various other how-to packets. That all adds up to a lot of chicken feed. Here's his website:

@Green Witch,
I did not say anything about chicken feed, nor did i categorically state that he couldn't make money. I said i didn't think he could. I was wrong certainly, but all it proves as far as i can see is a confirmation of the old dictum about fools and their money.

@Setanta,
Relax. I'm not swatting at you. The maze thing (aka AgraTourism) is actually a great boon for farmers, especially smaller ones who don't own a gazillion acres of soybeans and alfalfa. Most of these farmers don't know poop about any type of design and this guy gives them a marketing tool that works. Farmers in our area can make as much (or more) on the corn maze than the corn itself.

@Green Witch,
Yeah, i get that part. Mom, Dad, the kids--drop $50 or $60 on a waltz through the corn maze. As i said, fools and their money . . .

@Setanta,
These mazes are fun. The Connors farm maze cost $12 which is a perfectly reasonable price for the entertainment. It is far better than the alternatives which include a noisy cramped hell whole with bad pizza screaming kids and anthropomorphic rodents.

This is a perfectly decent business.

@maxdancona,
Corn mazes are fun. It's a good chance to get out into the crisp fall air on a nice day and get the little kids all excited and giggling and running around. And the best part about them is that you can always get out of them simply by walking through the corn in a straight line.

True; but they say Moses wandered the desert for forty years because he refused to ask directions... The worst thing is when you ask for directions and some guy speaking hillbilly tells you to go back where you came from when you finally realized you didn't know where you where or where you were supposed to be going...

@Butrflynet,
One would think - but the news is not giving out the family name - because the family is embarassed - so doesn't appear they are seeking publicity - quite the opposite.

@JPB,
exactly and some people who have been to this maze said - you can hear the cars driving by on the road so even in the dark you could find your way.
