Most dangerous cities in America? Detroit's No. 1, but the others may surprise
By Tom Uhler | Fort Worth Star-Telegram

FORT WORTH — What's the most dangerous city in Texas?

If you guessed Houston, Dallas or even Fort Worth - not so fast, cowpoke.

Lubbock?

Bingo. "The Hub City" came it at No. 6, according to the Forbes report, right behind Anchorage, Alaska.

Detroit came in at No. 1, with 345 murders last year (almost one a day), and 1,111 violent crimes per 100,000 residents.

Lubbock had 808 violent crimes per 100,000 residents, according to the FBI Uniform Crime Report, on which the Forbes report is based.

Here's the full list:

No. 1 - Detroit

No. 2 - Memphis

No. 3 - Springfield, Ill.

No. 4 - Flint, Mich.

No. 5 - Anchorage, Ak.

No. 6 - Lubbock

No. 7 - Stockton, Calif.

No. 8 - Tallahassee, Fla.

No. 9 - Las Vegas, Nev.

No. 10 - Rockford, Ill.

@BumbleBeeBoogie,
The constant criminal presence of Snake and Fat Tony must be a constant terror for the long time Springfield residents.

@tsarstepan,
I think we need to keep an eye on Groundskeeper Willie, personally...

@tsarstepan,
I lived in Springfield in 1969. It was like something out of the Damon Runyon stories; a floating crap game in the same location for ten years, and a bagman named Tony. Actually, Tony was really an agent for Hotel and Restaurant Workers Union, but bagman is more descriptive.

@djjd62,
Those Windsorians like to do their killing in Detroit, sorta like puppies not fouling their sleeping quarters.

@Linkat,
no, she didn't travel with me.

In fact, other than Missouri and Mexico, I don't think she ever leaves Kansas...

there was very little crime in her bar, however.

I am surprised Gary Indiana did not make the list. everyone must be dead there by now...

@BumbleBeeBoogie,
Decades ago Detroit and Miami was in a neck to neck race for the position of the Murder Capital of the US.

On heading to the Miami airport to visit my now wife living in Detroit I passed a murder/police scene at the side of the highway so I knew that my city was trying it very best for the title and that one way or another I was leaving one of the top two murders cities to visit the other top two murder cities in the country.

Strange feelings at the time.
