I'll start with one I just found in today's Guardian -

Tony Ray-Jones: The English
When photographer Tony Ray-Jones returned from New York to Britain in 1965, he toured seaside towns, villages, cities and festivals, documenting the English way of life 'before it became too Americanised'. An exhibition of his work will be on show at the 2011 Guernsey Photography Festival from 1 June.

Here's one of the slides - now the smallest known primate:

@ossobuco,
Another Guardian slide show, this about an exhibit at the National Gallery of Scotland of the work of Albrecht Durer -

http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/gallery/2011/jun/08/albrecht-durer-fame-national-gallery-scotland

Here's one slide -

Saint Jerome in His Study (1514)
"In this miraculous printed image, Dürer achieves with finely etched lines what Renaissance painters such as Antonello da Messina and Giovanni Bellini create with colours; a subtle, tangible atmosphere that hovers over the exquisitely detailed room in its precise perspective. This is one of his most ambitious prints, a tour de force demonstration of a new technology"

Hey now, that mouse lemur in the first post looks a lot like a Durer drawing.

@tsarstepan,
I love this dangerously unhealthy sideshow so much I'm dropping it into not one but TWO threads!!

@tsarstepan,
You're right, this is a very fine slide show. It is to weep..
well, I've not found any decent gelato in my new fair city, and this will force me to learn to make it myself, including cooking the custard part and so on. (We do have a great paleta place or two).

Also, that caramel sundae thing looks spectacular.

@tsarstepan,
Ok, here's a slide show I just plain love.

When I stayed with my cousin and her husband in California a couple of years ago, in their just recently built new house, a place of many interesting devices...
one of the several amusements for me was the Roomba vacuum thingy.

So now we have Roomba art, and a slide show about it -

http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/176982/20110708/roomba-art-hits-web.htm

Fabulous, I say.

@tsarstepan,
Have you ever played (or heard of the game) the floor is made of lava game as a child Osso? Where the child or children pretend that they can't touch the floor because its made of hot magma so they move around the room via the room's furniture?

This photograph reminds me of that game:

@tsarstepan,
No, but I'm an elder (it goes so very fast) re being a child, and family kids are just starting again.. The main bit I remember is my play pen. I think I remember the crib too. And the taste of some biscuit type crackers.

Ten adverts that shocked the world

Advertising is a world in which the normal is beautified, cracks are airbrushed over and real-life is portrayed with rose tinted glasses. And all with the intention of getting the consumers to buy into such ideals.

@msolga,
I couldn't get the Independent link to show for a while, but just now came back and tried it.
Pretty strange ads, to me.

Interesting. I think I'll pass, unless of course those milk trucks would still supply me chocolate milk..
