Would it be possible to make an electric car that has a "solar panel trailer" attached so that on sunny days the solar panels would generate enough power to continuously recharge the batteries? It could also have a small gas powered generator to kick in when there is not enough sunlight. Maybe the "solar panel trailer" could even be connected to "the grid" on days you don't leave home to help reduce your home electric bill!

I remember that being done back in the '80's for the very early engineering contests for solar powered vehicles.
