@ossobuco,
Am still eating pain pills like candy. The good news is that I no longer lose bladder control from the pain when I try to stand so things are improving.
Once I'm up, I can move around for about an hour before I can't stand the pain any longer and need to lay down. The only relief seems to be laying flat on my back. There is a bulge in the vertebrae of my lower back area that has me thinking something in the spine got jerked out of alignment while I was wheeling BBB down the sloping ramp of the hospital lobby when I had to take her to emergency last week for her chest pains. It was a steep slope and I had to put my back into it to keep the wheel chair from careening out of control.
I would have been okay if I'd taken it easy afterwards but did not do so. Had to go to a doctor's appointment of my own for some urgent treatment and then to Walgreens to get a prescription filled. It was the round trip walk all the way to the back of Walgreens that finally did me in. Should have used the drive-thru.
We're managing. I've been a lot more mobile the last two days and was able to make a pot of spaghetti and another big bowl of BBB's favorite salad to last us a few days. Also got a load of laundry done for each of us. It just takes me a long time to do things between breaks. Luckily, I had done the grocery shopping the week before so we're well stocked - it is just that most of it is for cooking from scratch rather than just heating up in the microwave so it takes more time.
The way things are improving, if I behave myself I should be able to drive myself back to the doctor next week for my follow up appointments.
BBB has tried to get an appointment with her ortho surgeon but he doesn't have anything available until the end of May. If her leg gets any worse, I may have to take her back to the ER so she can get some immediate treatment.
It would help a great deal if she'd give in and make use of her mobility scooter rather than so stubbornly trying to push through as if she were still the agile able-bodied person she used to be. But, that's another show...
