what is texas hold 'em?

does it have anything to do with big sexy guys that my husband doesn't have to know about????

Texas hold'em is a fast paced variation of poker that is reputed to "take a minute to learn and a lifetime to master". It can be expensive to learn and should be avoided by those with a propensity to become degenerate gamblers, as it is quite addictive and lots of fun.

sounds fun. i most definitely do not have a propensity towards gambling (degeneratively or otherwise)....

i had a cd that had a french card game on it, a driving game...i can't recall the name. Does anyone have any clue to what I'm talking about? i love this game.

I can point you towards a website, if you like, but you would be the first person I've met that avoids the cash tables for very long. My Dad lasted 3 weeks; and I was amazed. Then he confessed that he had been having trouble loading money up for a week already.

I have no idea what that other game might be.

Shocked Does my new Avatar answer your question?

I'd fallen asleep by the time you put yer hat on O'Bill. It was quite a delight to see its orange glow this morning. I considered picking one up when we were in Wisconsin in October. Couldn't really figure out where I'd wear it up here.

They are best for game-day. May I suggest some car magnets? I have 18 inch G's on the doors of my Z3, and a Helmet on the trunk. My license plate says PACKU (just like my "away game jersey"). I put them on for a road trip to Tampa, years ago(probably where that pic was taken), and I don't think I've driven more than 15 miles since without another Cheese Head honking and waving like mad! It's tons of fun. I would never have realized how many cheese heads there are in South Florida without them.

We had that game when I was a kid, onyx. It's called Mille Bornes.

Here's the description from Amazon.com:

First published in 1962, Mille Bornes (pronounced "meel born," French for "milestones") is an auto racing card game whose object, for each team of two players, is to be the first to complete a series of 1,000-mile trips. Each player has a hand of six cards and picks more in turn from a central pile. There are Distance, Hazard, Remedy, and Safety cards, each with various subgroupings, which determine the course of play. This Collector's Edition reproduces the artwork of the original game. The set includes a car-shaped plastic card tray, score sheets, instructions, and deck of 110 playing cards with language in English and French. Bon voyage!

I remember playing a card game in highschool. We all used to play it until the school banned it. Kids were betting and skipping class, playing in the hallways. The second floor cafe turned into a casino.
From what I remember, the deck was a few cards short. The art work was very old fashioned, like tarot cards and I think the game was called - breesh-cola.
Anyone else heard of it?

Is there backstory someplace? This sounds... not good.

O'Bill (I like ehBeth's version, OB is a bit too maternity ward), did you USED to live in Wisconsin, or what? You seem to live in Palm Beach now. (I lived in Madison 1989-1997, UW-Madison grad ['93, didn't take 8 years.])

Oh and I forgot, LOVE Scrabble. Also Boggle. And like Mac, Trivial Pursuit when it was new, haven't revisited it for a while. (I remember playing it with my parents and their friends, was annoyed at all the 60's references, recently saw an 80's version and had a brief "HA I'll get that and make them play" before getting depressed about how old I am that there is a Trivial Pursuit version of my youth.)

Yes indeed. I grew up in Lake Geneva and went to school at UW-Whitewater at about the same time as you were in Madison. Whitewater wasn't as fun as Madison, but it didn't suck. Too damn cold in Wisconsin, so I moved to Palm Beach. I still never miss a Packer Game and my loyalty is absolute!

And now perhaps nimh starts to get why we both have "bricks" on our heads (if he's reading...)

Whitewater, eh? My cousin went there, and have a few friends who went there. Beer seemed to figure prominently in their stories about UW-Whitewater.

So were you in Wisconsin for the Packers' Superbowl win? (I had just finished telling someone about Desmond Howard's 99-yard kickoff return for a TD when Ahman Green took off on his 98 yard scamper on Monday night... ahhh...)

Three friends and I played Hearts every morning of junior year at East Catholic High till, one by one, they got kicked out. I took that as a sign and stopped playing cards till I joined the Air Force, there the opportunities were too many.
There was a poker game of various stakes at several locations in the barracks. Most were nickel, dime quarter games but there were some that descended into barter stakes. "I bet this Yashica camera and raise you two Cream albums and this Mysterian's 8-track." "Okay, I see your raise with these three Big Brother and the Holding Company's and raise you a Santana. " ..........

I have just returned from vacationing with two of the most rabid Scrabble@ players on the face of the earth, my best friend, A. and my sweetiepie L. (I have known A since high school.) Those two fight tooth and nail over every tile, every word, the games go on on a marathon like schedule starting nightly about nine and lasting into the wee wee hours. (I like to see the sunrises so I quit after four or five games.) Those two women, head to head are something to see and hear and the scores are prodigious with some games ending with both of them over 300 points.

I usually win the games I play against them, but modesty prevents me from saying by how much.

Joe

Texas Hold 'Em is one of the most enjoyable games that I play... However, if you're at a table w/no rules, it sorta sucks! lol It can become addictive, but only if you let it... I simply love Spades, Jeopardy, Chess, & Backgammon... I like most anything that will perplex my pea sized brain... lol Have a good 'un! Smile
