Autotrol water system 155 Water Level//water taste,odor

The water from my softener tastes and has the odor of iron. I checked the brine tank and it was nearly empty of salt and had an inch or 2 of water in the tank . I cleaned out the tank and found some salt that was as hard as, and felt like glass. I also removed the well and pump from the brine tank and cleaned these as well. I also removed the injector, screen and air check and cleaned these. I called a local water co. to ask how much to refill the tank of water and salt. They said 80lbs of salt and 6 gallons of water. In this I added a cup of iron out dissolved in one of the gallons. I have regenerated the system 3 times. After the first regeneration the water level was 2" or 3" above the salt. I added another 40lbs of salt thinking this would take care of the water level, but to no avail. After the second regen the level remained the same. At this point I sucked out approximately 2 gallons of water with a wet vac. After the third regen the water level remains the same. Our household has 5 people and the regen is set at 14lbs.

Please, what is the next step?

Thank you.

@foreverwhalerfan,
There should be about 10-12 inches of water in bottom of salt tank. Look down the tube where float is and see how much water is there. Test the water to see if it is soft now 0gpg. Also run the system through a manual cycle, go to refill cycle (refill to salt tank) hold the float ball down until water comes out to make sure there is no air trapped in brine system.
