It doesn't. First of all there is never, ever a "requirement" to get a new password.

The ability to generate a new password is simply to provide a way for the member to get into the account if they have forgotten their password.

Since passwords are stored in a secure hash even those who have access to the database (like myself) do not know your password.

A hash is not possible to crack without using supercomputers (through "brute force" methods, as it's not encryption, it's an md5 hash).

So in short, generating a new password is only needed if you forget your password and need a new way in (sibce we do not know your passwords and can't tell you what it is).

Now one possibility is that you are simply having to log in every week or so, instead of being automatically logged in through cookies. That would probably be that you (or one of your programs) is deleting the cookie.

But when that happens, as long as you remember the password you can simply log in. There's no need to generate a new password.

Once you generate a password log in, and then edit your profile and update it to a password that you will remember.
