Rehab or replace neglected water conditioning system?

Hi-- I'm hoping someone can get started...

I just bought a home whose 2nd owner completely neglected the water conditioning system since 2004, now I'm trying to figure how to address the situation ...ideally before my wife moves back to our old place!

Here's the details: (from memory, as I'm at work)
Water: Well water -- Iron 8ppm; Hardness 7.5-ish; pH 6.5
System: WaterSoft Provectr AF-13 aeration-style iron filter system, WaterSoft CA-32 water softener -- all installed in 1996.

I'm in rural Alaska and the only WaterSoft guy is retired so I'm on my own. By now the iron filter is undoubtedly useless and needs to be overhauled (installation notes indicate service should be performed every 6-12 mos.) while the softener appears mostly-functional and doing its best to shoulder the burden.

Is this system worth rebuilding and resurrecting? Am I better off just replacing? If so, with what?
While I'm reasonably handy, this is all new to me so if anyone can provide a quick education and point me in the right direction, I'd be VERY appreciative!

Thanks!

-Eric.

@RedShift42,
Eric hello, I posted previously but apparently it was deleted. Have you gotten help with your system yet?

@RedShift42,
Replace it. After several years of neglect start out new . May want a twin tank softener with that amount of iron. Definitely service at least yearly(iron/acid filter) . Plan to rebed it every 3 years but if you can do it your self rebed it every time 1-1.5 years. Steve G
