Grouping people into "us" and "them" is part of our evolutionary legacy, and whether you base your prejudices on color, nationality, religion, gender, caste, intelligence, political party, sexual orientation or some other distinguishing feature, it is not that easy to overcome.
Sadly, true. The problem is, the way that things are going now in the world, that if we don't overcome this predisposition of humans to lump people into categories, someday there may be neither "them" nor "us"!

racism can be ended by trying to control fear, and in this case, it is the fear that humans are afraid they will have no one to look down on, nor up to.

I do not believe that we will be able to banish racism in the USA. Racism is at the forefront in church, in the board room, at the meal table, in the workplace, in the schools, in justice system(she is definitely not blind), in government(all presidents were white), in the Constitution, everyday encounters, etc.
Furthermore, I don't think there should be a colorblind society. We should cherish diversity which is definitely more interesting.
Homogenuity is boring.

Homogenuity . . . is that a reference to the problem solving skills of the human race?

Put 'em in a melting pot,
Stir 'em up with polyglot,
Pretty soon we all shall see,
A human looking just like me.
Happy New Year to all whoever you be,
A monkey--an ape--in a family tree.
