I have a Kona Stinky and am thinking of getting a new mountain bike as I go mountain biking quite often. Just wondering to know what mountain bikes other people have and their opinions of them.
The main brands I know of are Trek, Kona, GT, Marin, Specialized, Mongoose, Cannondale, Scott etc

@MatthewB7621,
Don't know about Mt Bikes, but I have a Surley Long Haul Trucker that single tracks quite nice.

Oh yeah, I see a lot of Yeti's but steel is real IMO.

@raprap,
That bike you have is a fair bit of money, and it looks nice too.

@MatthewB7621,
It replaced a Kona hard frame, and yes it wasn't inexpensive.

BTW you're treading in a pretty deep ocean here. What type of Mountain biking are you interested in doing? Are you touring, kamikaze downhill, single track, cyclocross, trials or using it for commuting/city biking? Do you want full suspension, solid frame, index shifting, disc brakes, 29er, or single speed?

The LHT is a tourer, but it's used pretty generally. I avoid using it as a city bike as it does tempt thieves.

I pay little attention to mountain bike brands. Mine is an Ellsworth Truth. I think it is a medium-range brand, but it has served me well over the years.

@raprap,
I do downhilling, which is why I need sturdy bike. I paid only £400 for my Kona though, which was a good price. I'm thinking of getting a Trek Fuel, as they seem to be pretty good at everything.

@MatthewB7621,
My son does that at times and has a Gary Fisher full suspension. Good bike.

But from the technical perspective I see doing away with vulnerable derailleurs and going to internal gearing. Simplifies chain line problems with rear suspensions and Rohloffs are really tough.

@MatthewB7621,
To your list, you might delete Mongoose and add LeMond. He sold out to Trek, but the mountain bikes were good, and probably still are.

Giant and Jamis are known for high quality components for a given price point. Don't overlook them

@roger,
Mongoose do some good bikes, but they're pretty expensive for what they are. And Giant to do nice bikes for great prices, they're just a little too heavy most of the time. I don't Jamis or LeMond as a brand so I can't say anything about them. Thanks

@MatthewB7621,
Hello Friends,

There are so many brands and model of mountain bikes, but from all these best mountain bike brand. Perhaps by reading my experience when i joined the race bike, this can help you how to choose a mountain bike that suits you. I have an adventurous hobby with bike since school and when I entered college ny friends invited me to participate in the bike event. At first I not really to follow this race because at that time the weather was not really excited to follow this race because at that time the weather was slightly cloudy.

Thanks and Regards,
