Just noticed that lots of the avatars are missing (including mine). It was here when I started tonight; now it's all gone and I can't get it back.

I ran into trouble with mine earlier, bandylu. Definitely something ripe in blue-cheeseland. I just saw a few people mention the same problem on another thread. Uh oh, spaghettios.

It's not a bug. Avatar uploads have been disabled as per the notice I posted long ago.
Yep,..mine too.
Seems the availability to load images from our computers, instead of from a url, has been lost.
Must load mine onto my site so that I can get it back.
You hit the nail on the head Jerry. Explanations about how this can be done (uploading to another site) are forthcoming.
ehBeth- Your problem was something else. The avatars were just removed now. Did your original one come from the gallery?If so, go get it girl!
Quick tip:
The people who are using the avatars I posted in the christmas avatar thread can go to that thread, right click on the avatar I made for them, copy the URL and paste it into the avatar panel.
OK, mine was from an url, so I'm confused. But it was offsite. Will wait for explanation.

Yours was uploaded from a site but was hosted here. Now the avatars need to stay offsite and are hotlinked.
'K, that seemed to work fine. It'll stick? (Just copied and pasted off-site url in "link to off-site avatar' box.)
Thanks, Craven. That worked well (once I found the thread with the Christmas avatars). I felt lost without my little penguin friend.

This is confusing. Craven will this be permenant? I know you said you would disable the avatars, but I thought that meant anyone who wanted a new one. I've come to depend on those avatars. And I didn't even know it.
This is permanent but it doesn't change the end result. Avatars are still a feature and custom non-gallery avatars are still possible (by remote linking) but just can't be uploaded.
There will be one more mass avatar change in the future (distant for now) when I improve the avatar galleries but after that there should be no more avatar confusion.
Mine was here but is gone now too, bandylu what to do.

find the avatar; right click on it; copy click on 'properties'; copy the url; go to your profile and paste url where the avatar blank is and it should work (confused enough now?).
